Parents whose children may have been abused by nursery worker Vanessa George will be allowed to choose to find out if they were victims, a judge has said. George, 39, abused children at Little Ted's Nursery in Plymouth, Devon, and made a string of indecent images. Last week it emerged she had passed on some victims' names to her lawyer. Sentencing of George and co-defendants Angela Allen, of Nottingham, and Colin Blanchard, of Rochdale, has been put back for more material to be gathered. If they don't want to know, and I fully understand why some parents should not want to know, then the information should not be thrust upon them Mr Justice John RoycePolice believ…

Garage owner Gavin Brierly Jackson, 44, of Romiley, Greater Manchester, admitted the manslaughter of Michael William Pennington, 26. Judge John Rogers QC remanded Jackson in custody until sentence in December and said that he was a mature and sensible man. Stand-off Mr Pennington, from Ashton-under-Lyne, received serious head injuries durin…

Yesterday the EADT revealed how Suffolk County Council abruptly stopped building work on a five-bedroom house near Bury St Edmunds after it became known the neighbour had recently been released from jail. He had served six years of a ten-year prison term for two rapes and a string of indecent assaults. Last night it emerged…

A Metropolitan Police officer has been found not guilty of racially abusing two teenagers. Pc Mark Jones, 42, was accused of subjecting the youths to a physical and verbal attack while on patrol in a police van in west London in June 2007. He allegedly accused a Kuwaiti youth of "robbing people while British soldiers are getting killed in Iraq". Mr Jones and four colleagues were also found not guilty of misfeasance in public office. Kingston Crown Court heard that Mr Jones was travelling with colleagues from central London's Paddington Green police station to Lambeth when officers saw a group of youths allegedly mouthing obscenities at them. They came to a stop an…

Detective Superintendent Mark Lacey, head of Northamptonshire Police's standards department, told fellow officers the public had increasingly unrealistic expectations. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12...l#ixzz0VzcLR7VW A message to the public spoken about in the article, in real life, Police cannot find the criminal in the hour allotted to those who are on TV. There are few and far between 5.10 stunning girls who are firm but pleasant in tightest of tight jeans helping out those who need help. I am sure the list of differences between REAL Policing and TV goes on.

In the last year five British police forces have suffered major computer failures lasting three days or more as a result of malicious internet attacks. The spate of intrusions by cybercriminals and the resulting outages was revealed recently by a senior authoritative source, who can't be identified because the disclosure was made under the Chatham House rule. The source did not reveal which forces were the victims of the attacks or the method used. The Association of Chief Police Officers, which coordinates police strategy nationally, declined to comment on the incidents. Despite the official silence on the matter, the news of repeated breaches raises serious question…

Link to article The Volkswagen van is designed to carry eight passengers, but onlookers were amazed to see it driving through Tower Hamlets with an extra six bodies on board. There certainly weren't enough seatbelts to go round, as at least one officer could be seen pressed uncomfortably against the back window. It sounds like the start of a joke - how many police officers can you fit into a Volkswagen? The answer, apparently, is 14 ... but it'll be a squeeze. This extraordinary sight is the result of Metropolitan officers' desire to get as quickly as possible to the scene of Monday's warehouse fire at the Olympic site in London. And after their traffic departmen…

A group of Scotland Yard officers may be punished after being caught sitting in first class on a train for free. Police get free travel in standard class in return for keeping carriages safe and tackling abusive passengers. But an anti-corruption unit found six Metropolitan Police officers in first class. A sergeant and three Pcs from Westminster police were also caught. All the officers now face misconduct proceedings following the bust on 11 September. Commander Moir Stewart, of the Met's directorate of professional standards, said: "It is not acceptable for officers to misuse the Met's travel concession. "The vast majority of officers and staff abide by the rules. "H…

A man who sued police bosses after being hurt during a protest has lost his case. Tony Greenstein, 55, a welfare rights advisor from Hollingdean, Brighton, suffered bad bruising to his arm after being held by Sussex Police officers during a demonstration in Palmeria Square, Hove, in August 2006. Mr Greenstein had reacted angrily, swearing at police after evidence gathering officers began filming a conversation he was having with a supporter of Israel at the scene. He was grabbed by an officer and warned but was released soon afterwards. Mr Greenstein sued the police for battery and false imprisonment but had his case dismissed at Brighton County Court in March 200…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/8342855.stm What are people's views on the sentencing in this case? I understand that gang members often force younger persons to act under duress or implied violence to do things such as carry weapons or drugs. Should we be so lenient on people who have effectively comitted a very serious crime, or should we be taking a more robust approach?

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is to independently investigate Dyfed-Powys Police’s handling of a four-year-old rape allegation that does not appear to have been investigated by police following the initial report. The woman reported the rape to Dyfed-Powys Police in April 2005 alleging that she was raped 10 years earlier when she was a child. During the course of a trial this year in an entirely different case into a rape allegation against somebody else she appeared as a witness. The allegations which led to this trial related to historic sexual abuse committed between 1996 and 2006. During the course of the trial the Defence questioned Ms X abou…
