Latest news Wanted man arrested after 5-hour rooftop standoff 25/02/2017 A wanted man has been arrested by West Midlands Police following a five-hour rooftop standoff during which officers were pelted with tiles. Akim Nicholson was spotted by officers in Streetly Road, Erdington, at around 7pm last night (Feb 24) driving a suspected stolen Audi. The vehicle collided with a police patrol car before being abandoned in nearby Scafell Drive. Latest news More time to question man on suspicion of terrorism offences 24/02/2017 Police have been granted extra time to question a man on suspicion of terrorism offences. Officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (WMCTU) appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court via video link to submit their request for a warrant of further detention. The man, aged 26, was arrested yesterday (Thursday 23 February) at Heathrow Airport after arriving on a flight from Turkey. Latest news CCTV released following a hit and run in Birmingham last month 24/02/2017 Police investigating a hit-and-run have released CCTV footage after a teenage girl was knocked over on Bromsgrove Street in Birmingham last month. The 17-year-old was walking down the road with her mum following a shopping trip at around 6.30pm on Saturday 28 January. A car mounted the pavement and hit her before driving off. Latest news Serving prisoner pleads guilty to terrorism offence 24/02/2017 A serving prisoner has today pleaded guilty to possessing a hand-written bomb making recipe in his cell at Belmarsh prison. Mohammed Rehman, from Reading, is currently serving a 27 year sentence after being convicted of preparing to commit terrorist acts in December 2015. Rehman had discussed targeting the London Underground and Westfield shopping centre on social media under the name "Silent Bomber". Rehman’s cell was searched at HMP Belmarsh on 10 February 2016 where a folded piece of paper was recovered with a hand-written recipe explaining how to make an explosion. The paper was as…

Latest news Storm Doris victim is named 24/02/2017 A woman who died after being hit by debris from a roof in Wolverhampton city centre yesterday (Thursday 23 February) has been named as Tahnie Martin. The 29-year-old from Stafford worked at the University of Wolverhampton and was walking along Dudley Street with colleagues when a large piece of wooden roofing flew from a building during Storm Doris. Miss Martin received fatal injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. He was detained at Heathrow Airport by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit after arriving on a flight from Turkey. The man is currently in custody in the West Midlands area. Latest news Pedestrian dies after being struck by falling debris in Storm Doris 23/02/2017 A woman has died after debris fell from a rooftop in Wolverhampton during Storm Doris today (Thursday 23 February). The 29-year-old was walking past Starbucks in the pedestrianised area of Dudley Street just before midday when wooden debris from a nearby building struck her. Sadly nothing could be done to save her and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Latest news Mother given indefinite hopsital order for killing daughter 23/02/2017 A court has ordered that a 32-year-old woman who killed her daughter in 2010 will be treated indefinitely at a secure psychiatric hospital. Iman Omar Yusef, of Milverton Road in Erdington, was charged with murder after three-year-old Alia Jama was discovered by police officers on 13 February 2010 at her home address in Erdington. Although a precise cause of death could not be established, it was found that Alia suffered injuries to her torso and her body had been covered in corrosive liquid. Latest news Women charged with begging over roadside screen washing 22/02/2017 Four women have been charged with begging after West Midlands Police responded to reports of roadside windscreen washers in Birmingham. Officers made the arrests on the Belgrave Middleway yesterday (21 February) after receiving complaints from drivers. Maxinela Stoian, aged 19, from Birmingham, and two girls aged 17 and another 15, have been charged with begging in a public place. Latest news Area cordoned off after man's body discovered 21/02/2017 Police have cordoned off an area of water in Edgbaston following the discovery of a man’s body. Officers were called to the lake off Edgbaston Park Road just before 3.30pm today. The body has not been formally identified at this stage, but is believed to be a man in his forties. Latest news Former headteacher charged with historical sex offences 20/02/2017 A former head teacher of a Birmingham school has been charged with sexual offences against adults. Graham Hardy, 64 of Blackfriars Place, Market Harborough, will appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on 17 March where he will stand accused of six historical sexual assaults and one count of rape, all against adults.
