Police Station - The 1970s (Met Police Film)

This is interesting but it's so fake that it's almost funny. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed watching that. I didn't realise that people back then still called police "pigs". It was interesting that "sus law" was mentioned, and that we could see that "WPCs" dealt with women and children (like what I've read online). It was weird that the suspected robber was interviewed in the CID office though.

Kipper ties, perms and porno-film 'taches.  Not to mention BROWN SUITS!!!![that's just in the first 30 seconds].

I was born in '65 so I know the '70s 'cos I wuz there and I know that if you wanted police, you really wanted these boys!!

Interestingly enough it looks like the the Met Police film used the same marked cars & van used during the various series of The Sweeney - 1 blue van, 1 blue and one white area car and the two pandas.....

Love it! I think they tried to cover as much as possible of the day-to-day and also show that bobbies are human too. Interesting to see the early PNC and note how much safer we all are with GPS in our radios. I agree it was weird to have the bag snatcher interviewed in the CID office!

My first posting was to that station. The building is the same but each room has been reassigned and changed so many times that when watching this it was very confusing!

The parade room is now the locker room. Collators office now the Inspector's. Holding cell disappeared. Cid office now parade room, etc.

Still, it makes me smile to see how it was

I read a book once that was written by an ex copper.

It was a complete work of fiction apart from the bits that weren't.

In it the CID would quite often take a prisoner from the custody block up to their office. While waiting for interview they would lock the prisoner in a cupboard.
