jimmyriddle 87
The differences are staggering and makes us look really unprofessional. Yes we all know nobody is Jackie Chan trained in the fuzz but that's what the public expect and guess what - it ain't the public that has to deal with these people! USA = instructions at well beyond arm's length UK = much too close and personal Sent from my SM-N910T using the Police Community App
MerseyLLB 8,426
I agree jimmyriddle. We, including myself, become far too complacent and allow bad drills to happen. I was picked up on bad drills the other day whilst booking a prisoner into custody. I'd left my detainee at the desk to go and find a pair of gloves and the search wand and he managed to get a biro off the desk. I doubt his intentions were to jam it on my neck but it's a consideration you have to make. Granted the Sarge saw it and acted but I let my guard down because it was a compliant prisoner who I'd got on with okay.

USA = instructions at well beyond arm's length UK = much too close and personal Sent from my SM-N910T using the Police Community App Outside of people being generally lax, there's a reason for that though; the majority of cops in the UK don't have an adequate measure of applying force at that range. The reason I deal with people close up is because it gives me the best options if I have to react or use force. If a hand flies into a pocket I can hold it in there and restrain the arm - if I'm standing too far away the weapon is out before I can do anything about it.
