How To Spot One Of The Latest Unmarked Police Cars

Recommended Posts

TLDR: It's the one behind with the blue lights and sirens, when you're doing 120mph.

Anyone who can pay that level of attention to someone else's car ought to be able to pay the required level of attention to their own driving!

Ultimately most unmarked cars are that unmarked. Not undercover. They are also easy to spot when up close and stationry. Or parked up next to another police car. When your driving it's less easy.

On a side notw BMWs are genuinely lower to assist with fuel economy.

So basically the whole article is summed up by one phrase - "It's got a fat ass"

My favourite hint:

#6 Is it driving like a BMW?

It’s a cliché but BMW drivers have a certain, how shall we put this, “style” about their driving. Police trained drivers do not. Is it in the slow lane? Is he travelling at the speed limit? Is he behaving like a proper driver should?

So true!  So true!

The camera behind the rear number plate is rather fancy!

It's not a camera, it's LED lights.

I thought that at first too, but......

You’d need to have eyes of a hawk to spot it, but the infrared camera now sits behind the rear number plate. One of the letters on the plate is mirrored so the camera can see through.

Double post.

Our unmarked cars have them. They're just blue and red leds. One side is blue, the other red.

They are infrared LED lights that surround the camera, if you look slightly to the right of them you can just make out the camera lens.

It's not so hard in my force because they all have sequential number plates

But then when you're dealing with someone and they think they're all smug by pointing out that it's easy to spot the "undercover cars" they get all confused when you tell them they they're unmarked, not covert, and the covert cars are there to do something else. They get all confused, bless.

Same in my force. The reg plates have a company name on the Middle. All of our marked police vehicles have the same

For example if it's Smiths & CO who made the reg plates... They all have them on the bottom, in line with the BSAU145d standards.
