Will a pothole claim affect my no claims?

As the title suggests.

A massive pothole did one of my front tyres in last week. Needed it sorted sharpish, so took the hit at Kwikfit for in excess of £80.

I've got in touch with the council and they've sent me a claims form.

Is this something that's likely to affect my NCD or cost me higher premiums come renewal?

Cheers!

Did you put in a claim on your insurance? If not then there's no way it could. If you did then i'd doubt it but it would depend on the insurance policy...

I didn't. They have asked for my insurance deets, but I suppose this is just to make the appropriate checks?

As an aside, is there a legal onus upon me to report incidents of this nature?

I'd assume so yes.

Not that I can think of, if your car is the only one involved and no damage was done to the road or any other road furniture as a result then i can't think of any legal requirement to report it if you don't want to. Stand to be corrected though...

I can't see why they should need details of your insurer - it's the council you're claiming from, and it's not their job to check you were insured at the time.

There's certainly no requirement to report this to the police, and I wouldn't regard it as an accident you need to include when you renew your policy either.

Late in reply but check your car ins policy to see what is required to be reported.  For example, that the policy holder might not make a claim following a collision/accident, the insurers would still want to be informed.
As above, I'd query why the council want your insurance details -I'd decline for the reasons above, that your to using your insurance and they have no need to check you are covered.   It may be a hurdle they are asking you to jump in the hope that you will not pursue the matter.

I thought that myself.
