sierragolf95 + 55
So in my current job with my miserable pay rate I'm currently sharing a car with another family member. It's a new car on finance, stereotypical for young girls who have just passed their driving tests, I bloody hate it! With my plans of moving jobs into a police staff role, I'm looking into what car I'd possibly get since by the time I'm offered the job I won't have too much time, especially if I'm relocating. For my preferred location I'm looking at commutes from 45 minutes to an hour, mostly urban and motorway driving. I'm needing something substantial that won't drop dead once the bad weather starts next winter, but also something that won't make me drop dead with the price since I'll be on 26k after enhancements before tax and NI. Don't mind whether it's new on finance or used, just looking for some suggestions and what you've got.
jamieMET + 121
Have you considered the concept of a long term lease? You are effectively paying every month to rent the vehicle rather than partially paying towards owning a depreciating asset (PCP.) No worries of negative value when the term ends, amd being locked into having to take another car I have been doing this for a few years, and if you aren’t too fussed on the vehicle and stick to whatever is on a great deal it can be a fairly low cost option to drive around in a brand new car with no worries VED is included so you only need to insure and fuel it too with varying deposit, length and mileage terms.
Beaker 817
I grabbed a Dacia Sandero Stepway 2 years back on HP. Pre-reg Laureate spec with 12 miles on the clock. Only a 900CC Turbo, so pretty cheap to run. Finance dropped it at just over 10k including fees. Would consider another. They're no luxury car, but they're reliable and drive ok. Shmook + 532
I've just started a 4 year lease, with no option of buying at the end. I'm sick of second hand vehicles and their problems, so went for this. I have a suzuki vitara (be quiet at the back, it's a good car!) SZT model. For the price, no other vehicle could meet the spec. I've got it for around £1500 initial payment, and £169 a month. 10000 miles a year, so you may need more, but as mentioned, VED is included, along with a year of breakdown cover. I get a realistic 50mpg, and it's a 1.6 petrol. Only had It 6 months but I'm very impressed ?
AdamL 14
I went to an independent car sales place near me and picked up a focus zetec 08 plate 1.6 petrol for 2k (sounds steep but strangely focus' hold their value), part ex'd the terrible Citroen c3 that I had (I know, I didn't choose it or pay for it) to knock an extra £350 off it, and took finance for £1500 by paying £150 myself.Finance over 25 months with total pay back £1700 (Not shabby) and my breakdown cover taken out elsewhere is £23 for the year - and so far in this year period I've done 6 callouts and been towed away each time, definitely getting my money's worth!I get around 380-400 miles on £40 It's no wonder so many people own a focus!

sierragolf95 + 55
Seems like a good vote for the focus. My mate had a focus st and the thing was plagued with issues, but then again I've driven the estate version that my old company had and my dad had for a while, quite liked it. I was thinking of going down the Dacia Duster or Stepway route but they are just as basic as they come sadly.

I'm looking a the new model Duster for next year. Had a CMax previously, and it cost me nearly 3k in repairs over 2 years. I've owned 3 Fords, and my experience has been poor with all of them. Drive great, well equipped but I spent so much fixing them i've sworn off. The Mondeo died in an actual cloud of black smoke, the Focus rusted out from under me and Cmax's final straw was the Engine Management decided to put me in limp mode and even the Ford dealer couldn't find the fault.
