Situation goes from 0 to 100 in seconds.

Looks as if the Officer was dealing with a 'hit and run' driver, when he asks the driver to step out of the car shots are fired by the suspect and the officer returns fire wounding the suspect - the officer was very lucky.

Authorities have released the names of the police officer and the man he shot and wounded Friday in a shootout that began when the man opened fire at the officer from the car he was sitting in, according to Glendale police.

Glendale police Officer Anthony Cano, a 13-year veteran of the Glendale Police Department, was unharmed in the shootout near 61st and Glendale avenues. The suspect, identified by police as 29-year-old Abel Rodriguez, remained hospitalized Monday with non-lethal gunshot wounds.

Police said Monday that Rodriguez would be booked into jail on unspecified felony charges upon his release from the hospital.

On Friday morning, police say Cano was approaching a parked vehicle that appeared to have been in a wreck when he located Rodriguez lying inside. Almost immediately, police say, Rodriguez opened fire on Cano with a small-caliber handgun.

Cano sought refuge as Rodriguez exited the vehicle and fired another round of gunshots, police said.

Cano wasn't hit, but he shot Rodriguez multiple times when he returned fire, police said.

Interesting video. See quite a lot of these released and also on some of the American cop type documentaries. This is why I do get annoyed when people are quick to criticise cops over the pond for always drawing their firearms, being ‘trigger happy’ etc. It must be terrifying ending up in this type of scenario and such a likelihood of encountering armed suspects at almost every incident.
