Police Officer Medics

Interested to hear about any police officer medics out there. I know BTP London have some ‘police medics’, but not sure what this actually entails. How common is it for UK police officers to be dual-trained? Are those police medics qualified as EMTs or paramedics, or a lower band, like emergency care assistant? I imagine most new PCs get first aid. Is it basic, like most workplaces, or is it more advanced and trauma based? Like stab wounds, car crash injuries etc. Seems like s good idea Thanks.

Personal Safety/Officer Safety Instructor Training

A bit of help. I am looking at having a couple of Cathedral Constables train up as PST/OST instructors so that we can qualify officers in the south east of the country, as opposed to sending them to Liverpool as we currently do. I have purchased the equipment we need with a view to bringing Instructors from the north to deliver the training, but the next logical step it to have our own qualified instructors for the SE. Does anyone know the cost of the Instructors course, duration, any providers in the SE region?

Hi all, Wondering if anyone taking the exam in 2018 has a good schedule/revision timetable for revision? I used Police Pass last year and missed by 1% but I found it really useful to have a timetable. I havent seen one released this year for Blackstones so I'm just going off the free Police Pass one. Just curious to know if people have one?

I am making some enquiries into people's knowledge of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX). Has anyone any experience if the training or any experience of how they work? Considering completing some distance learning with them and would be interested to hear if anyone else has done so.

Hello everyone, Can anyone steer me in the right direction as to the best Blackstone's Policing Manuals to go for in the case of a new student Police Constable? Is it worth buying all four or is there a specific one relating to IPLDP and new student Officers? There appears to be a lot of conflicting information. Thanks in advance

During another few discussions with friends, family and colleagues, we stumbled across the topic of CoP's Fast Track Programme for Serving Constables, so after having searched the current topics and being unable to find one similar, I thought I'd start one for discussion. Does anyone have any experience with this current scheme, whether it be as a candidate or as someone who has worked with one of the candidates? What are your experiences, and the pros/cons?

The College of Policing has today published a series of reports looking at leadership and integrity as part of its ongoing work to build the evidence base around what works in policing. The reports, commissioned in 2013 by the national policing leads for professional standards and police ethics, followed a series of high profile cases and national reports which raised questions about the integrity of the police and the role of senior police leaders. The purpose of the programme was to enable the profession to take ownership of these issues. Chief officers wanted to understand better what factors might lead to problems emerging, highlight ways of promoting ethical …

HMIC published its report Stop and search powers 2: are the police using them effectively and fairly?

College of Policing head of the Uniformed Policing Faculty, Assistant Chief Constable Richard Bennett, said:

“Stop and search powers play a role in helping us tackle crime and keep people safe. It is clear that the service has not always got the use of these intrusive powers right, and this has led to resentment in some of our communities.

“A review of existing stop and search training has already begun and the College is working with the Equality and Human Rights Commis…

An online tool that gives easy access to the evidence of what does and doesn’t work in reducing crime has been launched today. Over 300 reviews have been identified and around 60 different crime reduction interventions will be added, over time, to the What Works Centre for Crime Reduction toolkit, hosted by the College of Policing. The online portal will launch with 14 topic areas, but we will continue to add to it as new evidence and research is made available around what works in crime reduction. The effectiveness of street lighting, CCTV, electronic monitoring and prison visits to deter young offenders are among those topic areas included in the initial launch. Co…

Hi, I have a colleague who's using the IDLP version of ADV's guide, and saw that they also have a Specials' Law Guide, http://www.adv.co.uk/software/special-constables-law-guide . Is anyone using this? And is it recommended for an existing independent special to help keep up-to-date?
