Coroner sums up in PC Nick Dumphreys M6 tragedy inquest | The Westmorland Gazette Coroner sums up in PC Nick Dumphreys M6 tragedy inquest | News and Star This report had escaped me until reading it in a newspaper yesterday. PC Humphreys apparently died in 2020 when he was answering a call on the M6 in Cumbria. The BMW caught fire causing the vehicle to crash causing the death of the officer. It was reported that this model of BMW engine should not be driven over 90mph. Why were and are these vehicles being used for Police purposes? I do not know if any officer on here has driven one of these BMW's.
