So I've just watched the latest episode of Police Interceptors (yes, I know before you say it, it's a guilty pleasure) and came across a scene where a 12 year old lad and his 12 year old girlfriend decide to take out mums car without her knowing.. after leading the officers on a merry chase around Bradford they end up crashing into a tree. When it comes to showing their outcome of the crimes they each get aggrivated twoc and no insurance for which they received a social work order and then receive *and this is where I'm stumped* a 12 month driving ban.

Why in gods name would you ban a 12 year old from driving - he's still not going to be legally old enough to drive after the year has passed. Also surely the ban would be removed from his record by the time he reaches 17 anyway?1?  I understand there needs to be some record of what he has done but still I am just absolutely dumbfounded over that.

I'm fairly certain in terms of sentencing they could have thought of something more apt.

*Rant over*

How can you stand that programme! The terrible narration, the added in fake sirens, the "coming up" and "catch-up" clips before and after the adverts, which are every ten minutes!

I do, I won't lie, I do!

I still don't get it though, what a stupid thing to impose.

I don't mind it, yeah it's got the daft shots of the cars leaving the station and the fake sirens etc but it's my own force area so it's fun to see.

It is odd, but there are stipulations for such matters I'm sure, if 'A' does this he must get this sanction etc.

The conviction and disqualification will be recorded at the DVLA.  When he eventually can hold a licence, that conviction will be on his licence for 10 years. He will also have to declare it for purposes of Insurance etc.

The sentencing guidelines for aggravated vehicle taking require a mandatory disqualification and endorsement, so that'll be why. The points for both that and the insurance offence remain on the licence for four years from the date of the offence, not ten, but are valid for three for the purposes of totting up.

Watching the show made me realise how much officers have to go through on a daily basis. Used to watch it a lot back in the day, have to admit the chases are quite exciting.
