Police Community + 1,311
Two West Yorkshire police officers have recorded a CD in tribute to murdered Pcs Sharon Beshenivsky and Ian Broadhurst who were shot dead on duty. Pcs Paul Feather and Richard Hopper have recorded a version of REM's Everybody Hurts to raise money for their fellow officers' memorial funds. Pc Broadhurst was shot in Leeds on Boxing Day 2003. Pc Beshenivsky was killed in Bradford on 18 November 2005. Five thousand copies of the single will be released for sale on 14 January. Ordinarily Pc Feather, 37, and Pc Hopper, 40, are road traffic officers in Kirklees but they decided to record the single as they thought the song's lyrics captured people's feelings about what had happened. 'Loss and pain' Pc Hopper knew Pc Broadhurst when they joined the traffic department together and said his death had been particularly painful to deal with. "Whilst I didn't know Sharon personally, the circumstances brought back many of the memories of the day that Ian was shot and killed," he said. "I didn't know either Ian or Sharon personally, but what happened to them took away a part of me as a police officer too," said Pc Feather. "Lots of people have come up to me as an officer to offer their condolences. Everyone feels this sense of loss and pain. "It was this thought that triggered us to record the song, as everyone does hurt sometimes, we can all relate to this." Former US marine David Bieber is serving life for the murder of Pc Broadhurst. Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah and Yusuf Jama have been charged with the murder of Pc Sharon Beshenivsky and are due to go on trial on 12 June. West Yorkshire Police are still hunting Yusuf Jama's brother, 25-year-old Mustaf, who is wanted for questioning in connection with the shooting of the 38-year-old mother-of-three and her colleague Pc Teresa Milburn, 37, who was seriously injured.
