Evening folks,

I am looking for a sporty 600cc bike, it's my first "big bike" so i am open for suggestions on what ever you have!

Cheers,

Chris.

I would suggest the Honda CBR600F as a first bike as of all the 600cc Supersort category bikes I have ridden it is the best allrounder.

Bars are higher than the YZF-R6 or GSXR600 making for a more relaxed riding position, almost a sports tourer for those over 6ft tall.

Handling is less skittish under hard acceleration and front end slides are recoverable.

Brakes are less fierce than either of the other two but equally as effective.

Power delivery is smooth and predictable.

Reliability is good.

Corrosion resistance is unbeatable.

My dad has a Suzuki SV650 Sport, which comes with full faring.

It looks extremely nice, and i believe it came at a reasonable price brand new.

I second the suggestion of the SV650, lovely bikes. You can pick up ER-5s cheap as well, these days, and the Bandits are not too pricey either.

After a lot of umming and ah'ing, I recently ended up buying a five year old Yamaha FZ6 Fazer - half fairing helps when doing a bit of speed, and with a Power Commander and some aspiration changes (Slightly uprated exhaust and a better air filter), it's got about 110 horsepower or so. Not bad for a £2,500 bike!

Oh, i forgot... Are you sure re: the full fairing? I thought the SV's came with half-fairing - the full-fairing is an aftermarket bit which works very well and which many owners opt for, I believe?

regarding the 'full' faring - Sorry! i'm a motorbike novice really. It has the faring over the engine etc, but if you know what i mean it doesn't have faring the same as a racing track bike.

SV 650 is a really good starter bike and has enough punch to be fun when ridden hard.

  • 1 year later...

I've got a Yamaha FZ6, which is a fantastic bike to start out on. It has the same engine as the R6 (albeit turned down slightly!), decent brakes, excellent handling, and decent insurance too. A great bike to cut your teeth on. It all depends on your budget really.

Do feel free to come and join us in the Bike Owner Club section of Clubs, Groups and Teams!

First big bike, go for a Hornet. Basically a slightly detuned CBR (still 100bhp). Fast enough to be fun but also very easy to ride, lots of options if you want to mess with it. No fairing so if dropped it's cheaper to repair.

There are a lot of good ones out there second hand as well if you don't want new.
