PandaRenegade 2
Folks, Many of you are probably aware that I have been working on a project for about a year now trying to put together a phrase book specific to police officers. The booklet is now finished and is available as as e-book. It contains 25 essential phrases, each one translated into 41 languages ranging from Arabic to Kurdish to Vietnamese. I've attached a list of the languages included in the e-guide and likewise, an example of the translations. Although some of the translations were done as a gesture of goodwill, a lot of the languages needed to be translated by professionals. Subsequently, I have to charge for the e-guide to recoup costs. The e-guide costs a mere £2.50 (the price of a pint) and with each sale, 10% will be donated to the Police Memorial Fund, founded to remember officers who have tragically died whilst on duty. Should you wish to purchase a copy of the e-book, you can do so by sending me a PM. This booklet is a fantastic inexpensive piece of kit and can difuse situations with foreign nationals almost instantly Language_Guide_Sample.pdf Edited July 30, 2006 by The Godfather

Guest
It's a very good guide, Neil has sent me a copy and I can confirm that a hell of a lot of work must have gone into it. It doesn't cost much, and since a proportion of the fees raised goes to charity this is something everyone should consider adding into their kit bag

Neil and I have been talking about this for a couple of years, just over that actually, and he has put so much effort into it. To be honest I have told him it is too cheap and he is ripping himself off! BUY ONE!

Sailor + 277
Hello, I never like being labelled as a spoiler but I have a slight issue with this being sold to PS.com members. In scrivomcdivo's original post in 2004, he mentioned that he was going to do this for members of ps.com and we helped him put it together. (I even did the Turkish translations). Now, I beleived that this was being done for members of this website to use free of charge and hence I took the time out to help him out. At no point was it mentioned to me that it would be done for profit and that it would be copywritten. http://www.policespecials.com/forum/index....showtopic=17646 Now, I'm sure scrivomcdivo has put a lot of work into doing this and surely deserves some sort of credit for putting this together. However, even though 10% of profits is going to charity, and even though it's only £2.50, I don't agree with the charge. If majority of it was going to charity, then I would pay, otherwise, I'm afraid not. Edited July 30, 2006 by Sailor

For some specific language pairs such as Vietnamese and Kurdish, I had to pay a professional translator to do these translation out of my own pocket and as such, I am out of pocket. The aim of the sale of this booklet is to recoup costs paid for by myself and then any profits will be added to the 10% donations to the Police Memorial Fund. Hope this makes sense. Also, I am in the process of working my way through the initial post in 2004 to see who provided translations; these people will be sent a copy of the booklet free of charge as the booklet wouldn't be complete without their assistance. Unfortunately though, I don't have a full list of everybody who assisted and provided me with a translation. Therefore, if you did, PM me and i'll send you a copy. Hi Neil, Thanks for the reply and the PM. I now fully understand why you've charged for the booklet and I think it's only fair enough. As I said, I didn't want to be labelled as spoiler but I didn't realize you had out of pocket expenses for the translations and it's only fair for you to recoup costs.
