Just wonder what the first initial training hours and shifts are for the met in Hendon, my wife is a nurse and will both be working unsociable hours and trying to sort out childcare in advance of my start date next month April 30th

You'll do a mixture of early and late shifts unless things have changed. I think they are 8 hour shifts.

A week of 7am to 3pm, followed by a week of 2pm to 10pm. Repeat.

Generally you'll finish half an hour earlier than advertised.

Can I suggest that you contact training school and ask. If you explain the circumstances, I'm sure they will try and provide you with the timetable as soon as it is confirmed.

Whilst well intentioned, the information given here can be wrong and the best source is the official people.

Monday to Friday. You don't do weekends until you're on borough. And even then, my street duties was still Monday to Friday.

Not all Street Duties are Monday to Friday though. Depends on the Borough.

Not all Boroughs have Street Duties teams.

Yes, it does vary. Even on my street duties we worked the August Bank Holiday weekend because of Notting Hill.

That seems like an odd decision, considering a street duties period is supposedly acknowledging that the new probationers aren't ready to go out and do the full job just yet.

The Sunday is a red day so everyone should be working.

Sure, but I stand by what I said.

Notting Hill Carnival is a dangerous, hostile and very trying environment. If we're telling these new PCs they're not ready to go out and nick a shoplifter on their own, how can we justify putting them out in that?

MPBH91 didn’t say they worked NHC, just they worked that weekend. I agree, NHC isn’t necessarily the best place for new staff start.

As @HazRat has pointed out, @MPBH91 didn't say they worked at Notting Hill, just because of it. Team is likely to be stretched and so long as they are with a tutor, I think that's actually a good opportunity for them to learn back on Borough whilst increasing the Borough's numbers. Never in a million years should street duties be at NHC, but I bet you they have been there in the past. I also bet that there are a lot of inexperienced cops there too, given that ERPT is full of inexperienced officers.
