There are some who were an LGV driver in a previous life and have since joined the police, and then onto road policing. Of those who were LGV drivers, and the apparent rapid change of wages for an LGV driver, thought I'd raise a post and see if any ex-LGV drivers have had thoughts of moving back or staying in the job?

With the increase of speed limits for LGVs (+7.5t GVW) from 40mph to 50mph on single carriageways and 50mph to 60mph on dual carriageways now being in force, has anyone noticed the sudden increase of speed by these LGVs or have things remained pretty much the same? The anti-increase argument was that such an increase would lead to almost instant speed related anarchy on the roads whilst the pro-increase argued that it would formalise the reality of what was habitually happening on the roads anyway. With no expected increase on the speed limiter settings, the dual carriageway increase are rather mute except for those times the LGV has a long downhill run and builds up a bit of momentum over and above the limiter. As one of those in favour of the increases, this change will decrimilalise the driving manner of the high proportion of LGV drivers on the single carriageway roads who have driven over 40mph in part to refrain from annoying other motorists as well as trying to keep the vehicle in the sweet spot for economy. It would be interesting to understand how this supposedly radical change has impacted other areas across the country and of course an opportunity to provide a view on pros/cons of the new changes
