To be fair to the protesters I find myself siding with them completely, a country heaped in corruption, misspent public funds and a brutal police force I'd be pretty upset too, especially when the quality of life for many people is as poor as it is. It really is a farce as far as I'm concerned.

Brazilian police have put together a pamphlet of top tips for staying safe during the World Cup next month, with suggestions such as making sure not to scream if someone tries to rob you, it is reported. "Do not react, scream or argue," says the brochure, which will be handed out by Brazilian embassies and consulates, Estadao de Sao Paulo newspaper reports. Sao Paulo police, who reportedly put together the document, are aiming their security tips at football fans planning to attend the World Cup tournament that kicks off in June. The idea is apparently to warn visitors not to provoke robbers into further violence, and avoid the increasingly common crime of "latrocinios"…

A gunman has shot dead two men and a woman at the Jewish Museum in the Belgian capital Brussels. A fourth person was seriously wounded, emergency services said. The attacker arrived by car, got out, fired on people at the museum entrance, and returned to the vehicle which then sped away, Belgian media report. One person has been arrested and police are hunting a second, officials say. Security has been tightened at Jewish sites across Belgium. Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo said all Belgians were "united and show solidarity in the face of this odious attack on a Jewish cultural site". Belgian public prosecutor's spokeswoman Ine Van Wymersch told a news conference that o…

A homeless New Mexico man who was illegally camping in the Albuquerque foothills was fatally shot by police. New helmet camera video released by the Albuquerque Police Department on Friday shows the moment 38-year-old James Boyd turns his back to officers and then gets shot dead. Despite overwhelming criticism to the shooting, the department says its officers were justified, KRQE reported. Boyd was shot on Sunday, March 16. Police Chief Gorden Eden said officers approached Boyd, who was sleeping, to speak to him about illegally camping in an open space, according to the Albuquerque Journal. According to authorities, Boyd began arguing with officers for more than three …
