A new police drama starts on Tuesday 5th May, on channel four, called "no offence"

No Offence follows the tough but big-hearted bobbies who go above and beyond to bring down the criminal rabble in a crumbling cop-shop.

Keeping these streets clean is a Herculean task, enough to demoralize even the keenest rookie - but there's a reason why this hotchpotch of committed cops are on this force, on this side of town.

Drug labs, arsonists, neo-Nazis and notorious murderers are all in a day's work for this close-knit team, led by the dizzyingly capable but unquestionably unhinged DI Vivienne Deering. But when a particularly twisted serial killer emerges it leaves even the most hardened of these seasoned coppers reeling.

Flanked by her right-hand women - the compassionate but impulsive DC Dinah Kowalska and the recently (surprisingly) promoted DS Joy Freers - Deering and her team must crack this case by whatever unconventional means possible. Because amidst all the assorted low life; the pimps, the petty thieves, and downright nasty s they've dealt with, this will be their most disturbing case yet, one that will touch their lives in ways they could never expect.

Paul Abbott says: "No Offence is a precinct cop drama. It's also one of the funniest things I've ever been allowed to put together. It doesn't look like anything else. No Offence's cake mix is as bipolar as they get - it lurches from jet black laugh-out-loud, into fragile material on the turn of a sixpence. Writing three strong female leads is one thing. Writing women that men would choose as leaders has been particularly satisfying."

Is it? What, in the UK?

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/no-offence   It's not available to view because it's only just been broadcast but I'm assuming it will be on there soon.

Not as good as I was hoping, probably give it one more episode

There have been adverts for it on Channel 4 recently and it looks like it'll be a good watch. I've just added it to my list of things to record, and got recommendations for The Bill, Midsummer Murders, Heartbeat and Wycliffe

I saw the trailers for this and, although it stated it was a drama, it really came across as being a comedy IMO. The GF said the same.

I'm going to watch this tonight and see if there are any similarities between the team I'm in compared to the team on the TV.  I did the same with Babylon and it was scary how close they got the characters to some real police officers I know.

Indeed.  Or runs like that in bare feet.  I wince when I step on a stone without shoes on let alone run over one!  It has potential to be good though with the types of characters they have shown, even though there is a large pinch of salt when it comes to procedure.  I mean when was the last time anyone saw CID running :P

I found it quite painful. Partly because of the humour level but also the disregard for proper policing stuff, which I fully accept is more about me than the program.

TheFlomeister,What we need is a bit more "BD to Z Victor one/two" with PCs Fancy Smith and Jock Weir, and the other two who I just forget, they didn't pussy foot about with the trouble makers or at domestics etc, still high up on the list as one of the most realistic police type programmes of its time for me, but then I suppose I'm no spring chicken,i don't watch Midsummer Murders as they are always murdering people on it,Heartbeat is a bit more my going,:PRich.
