This is the age old trap of being called to those filming. It does my head in, and I have to say while I usually support PCSOs, that's not an appropriate use of S50. Appropriate doesn't mean it falls within the law, it means if no complaint of criminal behaviour is being made - why get involved? This chap is clearly an antagoniser of those in uniforms, just leave him well alone and he won't get the show he wants.

Why no earpieces?

No, definitely not. I'm surprised how some forces don't, given that others will cite the data protection act and say you Must wear one.

I already have a dull left ear drum from wearing one in BTP so I don't wear one - I'm gonna need my hearing for another 32 years thanks.

Are they actually bad for you, or is it just the enviroments that you had to work in? I hate not wearing my earpeice, I feel incomplete without it.

It depends on what volume you run it at, and what type it is, so it's not necessarily dangerous, but it can be.

I wear the Acoustic one now rather than the over the ear bud one. It does come with the disadvantage of making me deaf on one side to degree while wearing it, but the volume of that one can be a lot a lower and still be decipherable in noisy environments.

Also, you look like a super slick secret service agent*

Not all forces issue them. Met for example.

Do Met not issue them at all? I always saw met officers with no earpiece and thought it was a 'fashion' thing. The met must also go through an obscene amount of waterlogged radios though, no covers issued either. My Gizmo has a little jacket he wears all the time.

Some specialist units such as firearms get earpieces, but other than that, no.

Not just data protection. I don't like the offender knowing what I know about them from PNC.
