TheJesusofKayaking 0
Here's one for you guys and another of my cop interaction vids. Basically I saw a couple of marked cars and cops searching a man so I took an interest without actively filming the cop/man interaction. As you'll see the one cop politely asks for me not to film and when I go to show him what I'm doing my camera does catch him and I do remove his features in editing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sy1ZqUe5V3Y&list=UUz0o9jxEGIrTzBVgg0QebxQ Reason for me putting this up on here is to ask if you know of cops that have been targeted because of social media videos. One guy has commented in the comments section about this incident http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11305791/Murdered-PC-Neil-Doyle-may-have-been-recognised-by-attackers.html but as far as I can see that wasn't social media related. MerseyLLB 8,426
There have been several instances if police officers being targeted in relation to terrorism from Islamic Radical groups including through social media. The groups affected were I believe in the Met, Midlands and a NW force. Aside from that there are a number of officers targeted by Organised Criminal Gangs and this is through a number of mediums from overt surveillance to ebay bought GPS devices attached covertly to police officers private vehicles. Cheers Matt It's a reasonable request, is it not, that an officer wouldn't to be recorded and posted online to prevent him from being recognized off duty? Especially considering the current climate (incidents like this and this for example).

Cheers Matt I don't know of any officers who have been targeted personally, but I have heard stories about people being recognised off duty when on nights out etc. It was a reasonable request from the officer and he seemed like a nice enough chap. I've been recognised a few times off duty, but that's because I'm really good looking But in short, I was on the front page of a newspaper and a few people recognised me from that and obviously interacting with our customers.

Where's the cut off point that you step in and ID yourselves given the advice in the link? From Danny Shine of whom you'll be aware. Something from this link http://content.met.police.uk/Site/photographyadvice "Contact with photographers, reporters and television crews is a regular occurrence for many officers and staff. The media influences our reputation so it's crucial to maintain good working relations with its members, even in difficult circumstances."

I don't think it's related to the filming, I think it's the megaphoning they object to. If I entered your living room and started shouting about nonsense on a megaphone, you'd want me to leave! (THe ultimate hilarity here is Danny himself eats McDonalds - I suppose his followers would say 'ironically' - yet he's allegedly making remarks/protest about such food!) TheJesusofKayaking 0
The pivotol point in the video as I see it related the the subject of off duty cops not ID'ing themselves when not on duty can be seen at 19 seconds in when the lady displays her police identification to the camera. Did she just potentially make herself a target? Even unwittingly?

When an officer identifies themselves off duty, they're making a risk assessment. Showing your warrant card to a camera is probably something I wouldn't do, but the officer in this case deemed it was safe to do so. However, I'd suggest it's up to the individual officer to decide if they want the risk of being identified off duty from social media videos.
