Four people have since been convicted in relation to the incident. There were 710 assaults on Greater Manchester Police officers in the last year. Two a day. PC Lunt said that many of his colleagues consider assaults to be an unfortunate byproduct of the job, but said people barely think of the effect such attacks can have on officers’ families. He added: “I don’t go to work to be assaulted, I go to work to help people that have been victims of crime."James Maskell, 32, was given a 16-week prison sentence for actual bodily harm, battery and criminal damage in relation to the attack; Leah Reynolds, 24, was given a community order for assault on a constable and battery; Mark Smith, 47, was given a community order for a public order offence; and Kane McCarroll, 22, was fined for resisting a constable.

Well done that man.  Sad to see him being hassled by what appears to be the DP's mate, though.

Forces should really go out of their way to applaud and publicise (where appropriate) people who go to officers' assistance.  Too often the footage is of MOPs competing for the best filming angle whilst some poor PC is getting a pasting.

Also, a bit of context.  PC Lunt was single crewed and responding to a report of a woman being attacked.  During this attack he sustained torn muscles in his ribs and was bitten

The guy who attacked him was given 16 weeks for ABH, battery and criminal damage.  It's sad that I was surprised this puny sentence was quite as long as it is.

Can't see the video too clearly, did a baton make an appearance at 11 seconds in?

Again such a long sentence bit too long if you ask me...... I'm sure it will prevent people from attacking officers in the future!
