The January webinar of the Fighting Crime with Data Webinar Series will focus on how to USE A GOOGLE GEOFENCE WARRANT TO CLOSE YOUR CASES. It will take place on Thursday, the 20th of January at 12:00 PM (Eastern Time).

In this month's webinar we will discuss how the location data collected by Google in the SensorVault database can help you identify suspects and close cases. Familiarize yourself with this powerful tool that law enforcement is using more and more frequently. You will be able to access all materials from the webinar after the session.

In the meantime, if you would like to have a look at the materials presented during our past webinars, you can access them here for free.
Be part of this awesome group of colleagues and review the materials, get your certificate, and share your accomplishments on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Looking forward to welcoming you to our community!

Not a technical question but what do you think about the ethics of geofence and other "reverse" warrants?

You're the reason I usually flight mode my phone when not actively using it, I don't want data on my movements being collected and examined just because I might have been in the vicinity of a crime :)

There is an ongoing discussion about this issue in the US and it is very interesting. I am pasting here an article that appeared on the Wired in August 2021:

https://www.wired.com/story/geofence-warrants-google/

Also this Google report is showing how many requests Google is receiving by country:

https://transparencyreport.google.com/user-data/overview?hl=en&user_requests_report_period=series:requests,accounts;authority:US;time:&lu=user_requests_report_period
