A newly obtained document written by the FBI lays out in unusually granular detail how it and other law enforcement agencies can obtain location information of phones from telecommunication companies.

Interesting article on the procedures for getting data, what kind of data they get, how long each company retains the data.

The link, dubious background, has unusual request to accept data before showing the report you’ve posted😳

VICE is legit  But agree the GDPR consent notices are annoying as hell. Websites act like they've no choice and the law forces them to show it. Of course there is a choice just don't harvest data on your website visitors then you don't need to display the notice!

And, alas, thats why I wouldn't look at the piece you mentioned.  Then again, as I don't work for the FBI, don't live in the US then I don't really need to know I suppose😃

I will defend @Equin0xand say that 'Vice' is a reputable site although it is usually content hosted via Youtube.

https://www.youtube.com/c/VICE

They have lot's of little 'off' channels too like 'Motherboard' and stuff.

@Equin0xwhat I would say is take what you read from Vice with a pinch of salt especially when comes to anything government related. After the Snowden leak many moons ago the government will be tight lipped about everything, leading to people/reporters speculating about things with no real proof to back it up. I've seen it a number of times now and from fairly reputable sources too.

A fair point, but the document in question here comes from the FBI themselves so not just speculation.
