Dave SYP + 2,961
Name them, shame them (if that’s possible for shameless thugs) then arrest, court, conviction and time inside to contemplate their vile acts. None of this restorative justice rubbish! Will this happen?..... I think not!

People aren’t ‘punished’ at HM pleasure any longer - hence the luxuries inside. People who pose a significant danger are locked up, and whose who don’t (debatable) are able to do things time and time again. Until they seriously hurt, maim, kill or commit a crime that mentally impaired someone significantly. ‘Contemplation’ or ‘Time to reflect on actions’ isn’t something the lefty-lovies believe works. So they misinterpreted ‘facts’ to suit narratives on restorative justice. Hence increase in crimes ranging from petty crimes, allowing them to escalate at an alarming rate. You reap what you sow. When was it so and how well did it work? Bearing in mind that the U.K. prison population has steadily grown since 1940, and drastically escalated since 1995. Even over a time of falling crime. Also in England and Wales you are more likely to be sent to prison than any other Western European country. Prisoners were three to a cell with slop out, no Play Stations and an hour of TV in a communal room through the 50s to the 80s yet crime and the prison population increased. Do you honestly believe that narrative? I certainly don't. If 12 years of serving as a PC has taught me it's that managers and politicians can manipulate crime figures however which way they like or just refuse to crime things at all. This idea that "things are better now than ever" holds about as much weight with me as the old "A police officer on foot patrol will only encounter a crime once every five years." It simply doesn't hold up to common sense. Edited June 9, 2021 by Radman

It simply doesn't hold up to common sense. It’s up to the individual as to what they believe. The question of crime recording/ rates as been debated to death on this forum and elsewhere. I fact check and dual source all information to form an opinion. Prison rates increasing from 1940 is a fact - slight dip since releasing people because of Covid. More people in prison in U.K. per head of population than France, Germany, Spain, Italy etc - fact. Police recorded crime can be manipulated. It is other more reliable methods that show that crime has reduced over certain time periods. Prison works in respect of a person in prison cannot then commit further crime in public. Beyond that as a method of changing behaviour and so reducing reoffending it is a failure and always has been. If not then the 129 prisoners per 100k population in 1950 would not have increased to 166 over 10 years, then to 218 in 1970, and on to 369 by 2010. But most people will believe what they want to without checking any alternative views.
SimonT + 1,185
We like to run this strange double think. It's probably better than paying attention to everything at once. This is clearly wrong and awful, but are there people just inherently bad? Or have we set up a system which deliberately underfunded education and social care, has ineffective and bloated criminal justice which barely does anything? But it's much easier to say look at these bad people, rather than ask why are there these bad people.
Zulu 22 + 4,576
These youths, it would be wrong to describe them as people, would act in this manner irrespective of what it was they did not like. We have seen it every day of the week when their behaviour is just the same towards Police Officers or anyone who does not kow tow to them. It would be wrong to describe them as mindless, they down have about 1 brain cell but the problem is that they share it.
