Reasonable Man + 1,224
Can anyone guide to what the criteria is to be retire on ill health grounds The best people to advise are Occupational Health and/or Federation. In short one has to be permanently disabled so unable to work until normal retirement age. This is assessed by an independent doctor who is a specialist in such assessments. Each case is different and asking why your mate’s brother got ill health retirement usually leads to confusion and frustration, as you then hear of other ‘more deserving cases’ who don’t get it. If it’s you and you have a condition that you think makes you permanently disabled you’ve probably got a specialist doctor dealing with your it who may have some general advice - not that they are always good at that side of things. You’ll have to engage with OH at some stage though as the job will have to offer you all reasonable adjustments to continue to work before you can go for medical reasons. Don't give any personal details just as ask a general question, I'm sure they will be best placed to answer any questions you may have?
