Bubba + 34
Evening all ! Having a problem this week with my Western Digital NAS drive. For some reason, I can no longer access the drive from my Laptop, running windows 8.1 Anytime I try and access the mapped drive, I get a windows security popup box appear, asking for a username and password. Problem is, I haven't set one up before, so no idea what it wants. This has only started to occur this week. My android tablet, XBMC and all other devices can access it, just no joy from my laptop I'm pulling my hair out, as I can't work out what is wrong. Western Digital said to factory reset the drive, but I think its a laptop issue Any ideas before I stump up for a Synology NAS
Bubba + 34
Well so far I've worked out it's do so with my windows sign in, there are various threads on forums with suggestions on what to put, but nothing seems to work. Techie1 + 2,024
From a working device, can you check a file or folder to see what permissions are set - is your windows user listed with at least read (but probably full control) permissions? Have you tried typing in computername\windowsusername as the user name format (and/or [email protected])?
Techie1 + 2,024
Are you logging onto windows 8.1 with your Microsoft ID (e.g. an email address and password) or just a local account like in the old days? Could it be similar this issue? : http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Streaming/Cannot-login-to-windows-8-1-network-share-with-wd-live-tv/td-p/711142
Bubba + 34
Well so far nothing is working. I'm using a Microsoft account to access the share. I can no longer access it from my Windows 7 laptop either. I don't understand, as nothing has changed, it was working fine and now it isn't. If I put my username in as follows COMPUTERNAME\Accountemail Account Password I get the message that I don't have permission to access the share and to contact my network admin! Techie1 + 2,024
Do you have to add that account to the drive? E.g. via a web admin site if it has one, or just by adding it to the permissions list. Could you try creating a new, local, account on the laptop and see if that works instead (I assume you'd still need to tell the drive to trust the new account). Techie1 + 2,024
Also, can you delete and re-create that share (assuming it is one you mapped in windows, rather than typing in each time).
Bubba + 34
WIndows 7 is now working, that was an error on my part as the drive wasn't mapped. Its got to be something to do with Windows 8.1, funnily enough it did auto update the other week. I have checked all the shares and they are just public ones
Bubba + 34
Tried setting up a different account on the laptop and they didn't with either. I've no idea what username and password it wants and in what format Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Bubba + 34
Well I reinstalled windows 8 and then did the upgrade to 8.1, so far its all OK. I just need to watch the windows auto update, as I'm sure it'll break again at some stage Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
