Afternoon all,

Can anyone tell me what they had to learn / know for day one of their specials training?

I am currently looking over:

The Theft Act 1968

The Theft Act 1968 Section 8 Robbery

The Theft Act 1968 Section 9 Burglary

The Theft Act 1968 Section 12 TWOC

The Theft Act 1978 Section 3 MOWP

Criminal Damage Act 1971 Section 1 Destroying or damaging property

Police Caution, +2 +3

But I’m not sure what the main points I should be looking at are……

I’m not going to lie my brain is a bit sore after looking at these already especially not knowing if I’m looking at the correct parts.

Any help will be appreciated J

Our day 1 was a corporate induction. Talk from PSD, outline of the course etc, we got onto the sections, areas of law, powers and such as the weeks progressed.

I was given 300+ pages of pre reads to go through and told I need to know it.

I didn’t know if there was anything that i definitely needed to know.

Yikes! That's a lot. We didn't get any pre-reading to do. We were given our blackstones text books on the first day and went from there. What format is your training? Ours is every Sunday with the occasional full weekend for OST and first aid running August to December, and as always, will always depend on your force!

Edit: My terrible spelling! Teach me to type in a rush.

Day one for us was mostly theft act, you should get a timetable with your course schedule on it bud

And do remember, off by heart "a person is guilty of theft if they dishonestly appropriate property belonging to another person with the intention of permanently depriving them of it"

Our staff were so anal about that!

Christ - we had no expectations upon us for Day 1. We did an overview of the force, the course and expectations in terms of conduct, uniform, social media, etc. Days 2 & 3 (which were a weekend) were when we got into the legal side. But we did theft first, so seems to make sense.

Try remembering the distinction between 9(1)(a) and 9(1)(b) if you don't already - and S10 of the same Act for aggravated burglary.

Suppose it wouldn't hurt to learn the key elements of PACE, which'll win you some brownie points! S1, 17 & 32 as a good place to start, I think

I now I have a test day 1 to see what we already know, I'll have a look over them and hopefully it will help me.

I was told about having to know the theft bit word for word it's about the only bit I did know I need.

Cheers for all the replys, my brain really was getting fried lol

a lot of reading/prep just for your day 1 :/

Day 1 is usually just induction/expectations/health&safety/PSD talk/Blackstones book and getting to know your class mates.

That's what I thought :-(

I did email and ask if there was any main points and was told to read the pre-reads.

Ok so I'm gonna take in info from 300+ pages lol

Hopefully another Essex SC can advise you here.

Seems strange they are asking you to cram in so much before your Day1, without guidance you could end up confusing yourself even more.

I see you have a course induction end of this month, should answer your questions and prepare you for Day 1.
