Was just wondering, given that Blackstones produce a set every year is there really much difference from year to year. I just bought a load of 2012 stuff off ebay with the aim of sitting the exam at the end of the year - am I putting myself at a major disadvantage by not having the latest 2014 manuals?

Two ways you will probably be ok.

1. Learn everything and as only about 10% will have changed you will get 90% so a good pass.

2. Research all the content and update all the sections with the new legislation. You will have learnt all the new stuff and have an up to date set of books.

Even busy Solicitors offices and the CPS don't buy the new series of book every year but just update them if new legislation comes available. I would go along with RM you don't actually need the most up to date copies.

I feel sure you will be able to download the changes that have been made in the preceding year from the internet and add them to the set you hope to acquire.

I passed mine with a two year-old set - which I got second hand from a skipper.......

I used Rapid Results College for both my exams. Thought I needed some in depth work because of some new legislation called PACE, that had come in when I went for the Sgts. I had to unlearn all the powers of arrest and Judges Rules.

Is the RRC still around?

I realise the thread is a month old but, it might be worth speaking to your training dept to see if they subscribe to the online verisons. Our force subscribes and we can access the online version from home and study at leisure. I don't know how much it cost the job though.

Very handy material includes the Q & A as well.

I'm doing The Quiz again this year.  Did it last year and didn't get the books and so failed (not by too much though, I was pleasantly surprised) so this year, I've got the books.  Not messing around this time..
