Decided to go for it and go for my Sgt's after 9 years on the frontline.

Thing is I haven't studied for 25 years and I wasn't the best at exams at school.

Anyone got any tips or study techniques for my old brain?

Did mine last year and passed, Im not the sharpest knife in the drawer either. I found that a crammer book was better than the "big" books as there were too many long words. Also I did online questions over and over and over again until I understood what was actually being asked (all in the wording). This worked for me however everyone learns differently. All the best

I'm doing it also! Have got my Blackstones and the corresponding Blackstones Q&A books. I've been reading the chapters in line with the study guide on Police Oracle (there is a timetable if you haven't seen it), and once I've read the chapter and highlighted key points, just blitzed questions on it.

I'll get the Jane's Review Crammer nearer the exam date.

FWIW I have done all three exams and passed using the same techniques .... the PC-PS, the PS-Insp and the NIE. What works for me won't necessarily work for others though.

I bought the Blackstones manuals, Police pass crammers, police pass video lectures, Advance training questions and Blackstones online questions. I also bought the NIE workbook for the promotion exams as it goes though many things in crime in a nice easy to understand format with good exercises and a few more questions.

I used Checkmate trainings study plan as you need a structure ! Paul Connor who runs the company writes most of the Blackstones books and is an excellent teacher.

My method - I read Blackstones once and highlight areas I think are important. I do Advance training questions on the topic/s that week, read the police pass crammer on that topic/s before doing Blackstones questions. In between I listen to police pass audio / video lectures .... It's a lot to do but got me really good pass marks :)
