Ospre Part 1 - how's the revision going?

Hi all.

Well the 9th March is nearly here and I just wanted to know how everyone else was getting on with their revision?

I have used the crammer books and Blackstones Q & A and have to say that I am really not as confident as I'd hoped to be at this stage. I have days where I look at the questions and though the answer doesn't always spring to mind immediately, I can still work it out using common sense.

Then there are the days when it looks like all the questions are written in complete gibberish and my mind refuses to co operate! And my test results are all over the place. I go from 49% - 76% (though am mostly at the lower end)

Whatever the outcome I will actualy be relieved when this is over now as I think I am actualy becomming a little bit obssessed with the books!!! Lol

Good luck to you all Thumbs%20Up

If you are doing the Police Review or ICAL questions and you've never done the exam before, you might be pleasantly surprised when you turn over the official paper.

The revision questions tend to be a lot wordier than the real thing, to get you to think about the background to the question. I can't claim to be an expert on the Part 1 exam, having only taken it three times (two passes - who's a bighead? I've only taken Part 2 twice - two passes - OK, I'm showing off now) but the questions were very short, sharp and to the point.

Keep on till the end - it will be worth it if you pass.

It isn't about good luck either - it's about hard work and application.

Hiya Loopylas,

I'm doing the Q&As too and they are doing my head in.  Like you, sometimes I do well, and sometimes I don't.

Most of the ones I get wrong, I understand why I get them wrong, and so, must be learning...........there are a few where I don't even understand the answers when they're written down............some because I can't handle the number of use of negatives and/or just the wordiness of the legislation in the first place.

I'm actually starting to get to grips with the custody questions now though - which let me down last time.

Keep banging away though!!!!! Smile

One of the rules of the exam is that there are no "double negative" questions, so don't worry about that.

Thanks Stan Still for the advice. Am using Blackstones Q&A, but have been told that the exam questions are more common sense and less ambiguous. And well done for not only passing part 1 and 2 twice, but for actualy persevering!

IveToldYouOnce, I am so glad to hear I am not the only one feeling like this. I have actualy worked out that my bad days are due to tiredness or lack of concerntration to read/absorb the question. (So early night for me before the exam! Lol) I am now answering the questions in blocks of 10 for each category in order to fully take in the debrief and to address areas of weakness. Am pleased to say that (touch wood) I am getting 100% on drink drive - do need to do a bit more on classifications as I bombed a bit there! My kitchen cupboards are now covered in pretty revision notes with symbols/ pictures as I very much need visual aids  - The driver licensing one I have produced will never help me in real life as my tractor looks more llike a train, but hey ho it's working for me at the mo.

And I totaly agree with it being about hard work as opposed to luck. When I initialy decided to go for it I tried to tell myself I wouldn't become obsessed and would sit the exam just to say that I had at least tried it once in my career. That way of thinking went out of the window in December. I have put in soo much effort now I will actualy be gutted if I don't pass, however I will be able to hold my head high knowing I gave it my all!!!

Hey Foxymoxy, It's reassuring to know at least a few of us are seeing gibberish at times!

We are now in the final few hours and I for one cannot wait to sit this and get it out of the way. Today will be my last day of revison and am not doing a full mock exam as it may be counter productive if I get a low score.

I am hoping that the effort (even the gibberish reading) will pay off. My biggest concern now is having to sit there for that amount of hours without talking!!! Lol

Best wishes to you all  for Tuesday - and here's to driving down the street once again and no longer turning everything you see into an Ospre scenario!

Ha ha! I won't even allow myself to think about Part 2!

I'm actualy looking forward to the period of waiting for the results as it will be too late to worry about Part 1 and too Early to know if you have to stress about Part 2. So a nice little break before reality hits!

Some forces haven't signed up for the WBA.

West Mids have tried, but there's a bit of an administrative hold-up!

Those people taking Part 1 this year can choose whether to do a Part 2 or switch to WBA if their force have opted for it.

So in short, yes there is.

Am totaly with you Dan

In fact when you tell people outside of the job they can't believe it's ONLY 55%!!!! But if only they knew how hard we have to work to try and achieve that magic number!

If we've all put in enough work then we should get there - problem is knowing how much is enough! Lol

I will be starting a new topic on Tues evening titled ' Post Ospre Part 1 - what will you do now you actualy have some free time?' Lol

All the best to you all

Good luck everyone- if we dont know it now we aren`t going to tomorrow! I agree- 55% seems dead easy but it`s not! - i`ve done it twice before , once before the set pass mark came in when it went on average result and they chose a top percentage and once in 2008 when i got 52.7%(grrrr) - really didn`t pt the effort in though when i realise how much I`ve studied this time and how much more I have taken in. I guess sitting on the comp for hours with a q&a disc loaded and the internet in the background doesn`t count as studying LOL !! So this time I abandoned the discs , have used blackstones, tom barron crammmers, blackstones books q&a and a tom barron audio crammer(phew) no wonder I`m seeing gibberish. My reasoning being - if I don`t pass it this time with all this study it`s not for me and I`ve decided this is my last time:).

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE - roll on tomorrow to get it finished!
