Is anyone else doing the Inspector's Pt 1 in September?

Care to share any simple "Top Tips"?  Mine for starters:

Burglary: at every stage in the question consider "What's in his head (intent), what's in his hand (W.I.F.E..aggravated?) ?  I managed 100% in burglary questions for the Sgts with this in mind!!

Over to you....Wink

I'm not, but i'm transferring into the MET, and asking out of interest if there is still a bottleneck of applicants for INSP in the MET or has this now eased?

Don't bother transferring to WMP for promotion - there's been a freeze while they sort out a re-structure!

The Met take 400-ish per year. There is a pool of approx. 1000, however many are not bothering having waited around under Ospre and a few are "timing out" under WBA/TOWBAR.

I expect there will be a push/panic around 2011/2012 when they suddenly realise the Olympics is 6 months away and most of the current crop are retiring!

Anyone sick of the online packages yet? I have done both ical (bargain 6 week subscription) / blackstones and can say if I ever see a negative question again......

Roll on Tuesday 13.00.......

Threaders...good luck, I've just had a month off.. 5-6 hours a day going through Blackstone's. I was at Surrey HQ last week for a 3 day Crammer COurse run by Paul Connor, the author of "Crime" and a MCQ writer..I know what you mean about questions. I have given myself a day off before a mock exam tomorrow and Monday, as you say "Roll on Tuesday 1300hrs" I want my life back!!

Nice one! That is some commitment. I have been doing a similar amount of revision / exam prep to that over the last 10 days, burning the old midnight oil (reminds me of student days...) when I get more peace and quiet.

I prefer the blackstones because the questions are of the correct type (ie not double negative answers etc), and the explanations were better. The selling point for me with ical are that you can be more specific about the topics you study - in BS online you can only choose the main chapter headings and can't choose the precise topic. However the ical question style and explanation leave a lot to be desired, not to mention the fact that they contain rather a lot of glaring inaccuracies.

I also did one of the Connor crammer courses, which I have to say was really good. My only criticism was that the subjects he covered could have been more closely aligned to the hotlist.

Day off at this time???? I daren't!! I know people who have dipped it by only a fraction so it will be a bit of a sprint finish for me..... followed by a collapse in a heap tomorrow....probably in a literal senseConfused

This time tomorrow, it will all be over! All that's left is to wait a few weeks to see if it was worth the effort.

It's too late for good luck - if you haven't put the work in, then all the luck in the world isn't going to help.

Have fun - it's a day off work, after all! Thumbs%20Up

I'm more concerned with having to trek half way across London!.. I needed the day off after the crammer course and my own cramming. Both mocks went well, winding down a bit like before running a marathon..roll on 1305hrs tomorrow!!

Hope none of you have had a lie-in? You should be at the centre by now - checking your mint collection!

It was a frustrating bitch of an exam..no "meat" to it, a lot of periphery questions. If  I have passed I will be surprised,as I found there were very few questions to test the knowledge of a potential Inspector..1 relevant time, ~ 3 bail, very few on burglary, firearms, theft etc, several on mens rea and traffic-related subjects, as I say, all-in-all frustratingUnhappy

As above. Not a pleasant experience at all, and I can't believe I wasted an entire Summer studying for it... never againAngry

The overwhelming feeling at Ally Pally was that the exam was written to keep down the pass mark this year as there are too many qualifiers already clogging up the system. It's probably a similar whinge to every year, however. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but it will be interesting to see the pass mark at the end of October!

I agree with you. It was a rather strange exam and seemed heavily weighted to E&P. I thought the topics of many questions was the kind of stuff that you wouldn't be expected to recall from memory in a real-life operational context without access to some form of notes / policy etc. That is of course unless you edit the blackstones and present the 3 day crammer courses (Star) or work as a Criminal Justice Inspector.

From my point of view I recognised a fair few questions from the ical / BOL packages, unfortunately I don't reckon that equated to 65% of them though.

My view is if I pass thats great, if I don't - big deal! It won't make any difference because there are no spots where I work anyway.

In the rather lucky event that I do fluke a pass, are there any forces who run the workplace scheme that are taking transfers?
