JAT74 0
Basically the question is can the OSPRE part 1 be taken whilst during your probationery service. Ive just read an article showing a now SGT who took it within his two years. Little confused. Thanks
Stan Still 1
I stand to be corrected, but I think that as long as you complete your probation in the November you sit the exam, you can take it. It's to do with the fact that Part II is in October, so an officer can't be promoted until after the results are announced.
JAT74 0
Im still not fully understanding maybe because its late, so for example you take Part 1 in March and your probation period has to end before November that same year to be eligble to take it within the probation period? It usually works out that people in their probation sitting the exam in March will have about 18 months service at that time.
Stan Still 1
I've never worked out what happens to a probationer who has their probation period extended. It seems that technically, they could be qualified to sergeant, even though they aren't qualified to be a substantive constable!
JAT74 0
confusing system. Is there a time limit when you have to take a sgts post then, I thought once you had passed both exams you could take a post whenever you wanted too. UChris 0
Technically when you apply for OSPRE part 1, you have to have the recommendation of your line manager to apply to sit the exam, hence the situation of a probationer having their probation extended yet being part 1 qualified should never really arise. JonB 0
In our force, we still do Part II but still need line manager approval to take part 1.

Stan Still 1
Has now Indeed - so from next year I think WMP candidates have to have permission from the bosses to take Part 1. That will stop people having a free day off every year!
