coggie 0
Evening all. Im sitting the exam again this year. I have read all of the Blackstones manuals and am doing the blackstones online exams. Anyone know if they are any good? Im getting just over 50% in a full exam which isn't too bad i suppose. Any advice appreciated. Thanks and good look
Mikeh2000 + 9
They were recommended to me by Paul Connor who writes the Blackstones crime manual, and he said that they are the nearest to the exam questions he's come across, as although they don't have as many questions as there rivals, they don't tend to have different versions of the same questions, and less mistakes. I've found them to be pretty good, and would recommend them myself, although the only other ones I've used are from Details Technology, and those ones I definetly would not recommend! mikeh20002009-02-17 17:13:
coggie 0
I am now able to get a score of 64.3% which i am a lot happier with. I am counting on the fact that if you do a question often enough and recognise the answer then if it comes up in the exam, i'll be ok. The Blackstones are all based on case law and the books which is also true of the exam. Only 1 week to go. How's everyone else doing?
Mikeh2000 + 9
I'm doing ok at the moment, and I'm literally browsing through the main topics now and doing questions on them so that my knowledge of the subjects will hopefully stay the same and not tail off. My average speed to answer a question is about 30 seconds as well, so hopefully the pressure will be off, in relation to time that is!
coggie 0
I can do an exam in around 2 hours now which is good. Last time i did it i ran out of time with 20 to go and had to guess the rest. I failed! Im finding the Blackstones questions pretty good. I just hope that they will be enough to get me a pass next week.
Bronty 0
I am counting on the fact that if you do a question often enough and recognise the answer then if it comes up in the exam' date=' i'll be ok. [/quote'] The only danger there, Coggie, is that you may not know why you are getting questions right or wrong, and therefore if similar questions come up you could present yourself with a problem. When I have used either ICAL or Blackstones I have paid more attention to the debrief given for each question as that has helped me understand the thought processes. Getting questions right during mocks and not knowing why is counter-productive. I would also question whether managing to do a mock in 2 hours is a good thing. This suggests that you are indeed memorising answers rather than thinking them through. The exam is designed to take three hours, not two. I have to say I cannot wait for next Tuesday evening. I am sick to death of studying, and have found the last month to be really difficult. I am spending this week listening and re-listening to the crammer discs for the major parts of the syllabus, doing questions on the whole syllabus. I am running at 65-70% and am reasonably hopeful, but know all too well that sitting in front of my PC at home and sitting in the exam room are very different!! Good luck everyone - my hope is that those who have put the hard work in reap the rewards. Bronty2009-03-03 13:00:
JonB 0
Too late for this year obviously, but if anyone is reading this for next years exam, I found the Blackstones Q&A to be much more realistic than some of the others in the types of question. I also found the explanations in the debrief were good, particularly how they referenced to the correct chapter in Blackstones Manual so if something still wasn't clear from the debreif, I could quickly locate the chapter and re-read in depth. Mikeh2000 + 9
Just to add that I did the exam this year after using the Blackstones Q and A to revise with, and there were a lot of questions that were very similar to them in the exam, some of them seemed to be the same with just the names changed! coggie 0
Having started this topic, i have managed to pass the exam. I would say that they seemed very good. When doing the exam i thought that there were a lot of questions that were similar to Blackstones. The good thing is that you can do questions wherever you have internet access. For me, doing the questions over and over again was the best way. I would recommend them to others for next year and also for the inspectors. argonath 0
Also found the online q&a very good and with the answers explained this reinforced the learning...at least for me lol
