Hi Mark,

If you check out the 'Careers section' of this web site, there is a study guide, tips on how to study and how to take the exam.  I write an article each week to guide you through the syllabus.  Everything you are looking for can be found on Police Oracle, and if you are stuck on anything you can contact me through this forum and I will get right back to you.

Good luck with your exam

I've put in for mine too, so hopefully this section will get a few more posters as March approaches!

Hi

Has anyone got any suggestions for audio revision aids, and where these can be purchased

I did mine by buying the Crammer guide, then recording myself reading the text onto an mp3 player. You read all the text at least once - without missing anything, then after two or three listens, you start to remember what's coming next.

Learning parrot-fashion might be an outdated educational tool, but it worked for me.

I have always been a great advocate of learning off by heart, in the right place, and for me that right place was my promotion exams. It is a long a tedious route, but when you see the question and know the answer, it is such a good feeling. While it could be considered ‘Old fashioned’ the reason people are still talking about it is because it does work.

When I took my promotion exams, the classes were taken by two Inspectors that had a method rather similar to yours, Stan. They called it the CAE method. CAE stands for the Coefficient of Adhesion of Effluent. In other words, if you throw enough sh*t, some of it will stick.LOL

Don't jest about it, TR. I knew someone who used to do just that. Then, one year (about his 9th, I think), he made a mistake and passed. The look on his face when I gave him the news was something I'll never forget. Actually, he made a very good sergeant.

I'm using the Police Pass discs which I purchased off the internet. Very good if you don't mind listening to a Welsh accent. Wink

As regards books, is anyone else using the Jane's crammer written by Tom Barron? I've got it and have found one or two blatant errors in it. For example, they say disclosure rules apply to all not guilty pleas, ignoring the fact that guilty pleas at Crown also fall within the requirement.

Not exactly good for my already fragile confidence, when I am beginning to doubt the book I'm using.

If you are looking for help with your study please remember that if you subscribe to the Police Oracle weekly newsletter I am writing a series of weekly articles that are linked to the study guide published on the careers section of these pages.

The idea is that we all study together and discuss any difficult area on the forum.  I check the forums each day for new posts, so in effect you have a free guided study course with trainer access.  Give it a try!!

I will be running a series of 'Crammers' (Sadly not free) in the New Year to support the study programme. Watch this space.

Good Luck with your studies.
