RegHopeful 0
Does anyone use windows mail? I can't seem to retrieve my emails, it's stuck on '2 of 56'. The port settings etc haven't changed at all so it can't be anything I've done. Any help muchly appreciated.. Thanks in advance
Penbwlch 810
It looks like Vista strikes again. My first suggestion is to suggest upgrading to Windows XP. I have Googled and found that many people seem to have the same problem. Here are a couple of answers: 1. Scroll down to Problem One 2. This forum I trust. If neither of those work, try Googling for "windows mail stuck mail inbox" When you have freed up your inbox I strongly suggest downloading Mozilla Thunderbird. It is free and is a mjor step up from what you have been using.
RegHopeful 0
Sorted now, thanks for the advice.. I take it Moziila Thunderbird is an alternative browesr?
Penbwlch 810
No, it is not a Browser; that is Mozilla Firefox. It is an e-mail client. Also, it is not an alternative anything. It is easily the most popular e-mail client there is, in spite of Microsoft arranging for their (inferior) software being included on all Windows PCs. I would strongly advise downloading and installing both Thunderbird and Firefox. You will never go back. Thunderbird Firefox
RegHopeful 0
I'll read up on both of those then, thanks. IE can be a pain but I suppose it's what I'm used to... Time for change!
Penbwlch 810
One thing to bear in mind. Both programs work on the principle of giving you the minimum you need (which also makes them fast). However, there are hundreds of add-ons available to make the programs jump through hoops. Your first port of call would probably be to the Themes, which are a form of Add-on to change the look and feel of the program.
Maverick22 994
I am with Orange. I get approx 600 spam emails a day, sometimes as many as 40 from the same people,(all at the same time) Royal Casino are the worst. Is this the fault of Orange or do these people just send 30 or 40 to the same address. Maverick222009-11-07 20:35:
Penbwlch 810
These people send dozens to the same addresses. Their posting (spamming) is highly computerised. Some ISPs filter out most spam and programs like Thunderbird also do a good job. Some of the Internet Security programs (like AVG, of which I am now an authorised reseller) also have spam filters. So, if you wish to get rid of spam (or, at least, not see it), you need to do one or more of the following:- a) change your ISP for one that filters spam Use a spam filtering email client such as Thunderbird c) Buy an Internet Security program that has spam filtering (such as AVG)
Stan Still 1
Er Pen - what's the forum rule about advertising?
Penbwlch 810
Where was the advert? I just felt that, in the interests of fairness, I should state a vested interest.
Stan Still 1
Ahem (like AVG' date=' of which I am now an authorised reseller) [/quote']
Penbwlch 810
Exactly. A factual statement to show my potential for bias.
Stan Still 1
I use AVG Free - it doesn't have the anti spam stuff, but it has picked up a few Trojans and other viruses.
Penbwlch 810
The free is very good but there are lots of things it does not have. No firewall (but Zone Alarm is good and free), lots of useful but usually non essential things such as ID protection and browsing look ahead protection but one very important thing is missing from the free; rootkit protection. This means that the free cannot protect against the worst viruses. Mind you, I have found rootkit viruses on computers allegedly protected by Kaspersky, Norton and McAfee so AVG free is still better than some other paid for protections.
