ok, i guess im just looking for some one to give me a kick up the ....im looking at doing the multi guess in march and ive even bought the ical package.

now all i need is someone to give me that final push and say go for it.

ive got 13 years left to do and at the moment im in what i would call a comfort zone....no great pressure etc etc.

has everyone else started studying yet? am i leaving it too late? should i stop spending time reading police oracle so much and just get my head down? Smile

and finally...the tom barron books...are they any good as i find blackstones very hard to follow and no storyline whatsoever!

If you are not careful, you will leave it too late to reach Chief Constable before you retire. Their pension is better than the one you will get at the moment.

Don't delay any further.

The job needs supervisors with a bit more than five minutes experience.

Your 17 years in the job should be shared and you should be influencing new recruits. Although you can do this to some extent as a PC, the best place to do it is as a sergeant. You can also sign a whole new load of forms!

I was thinking the same thing last year having re-joined with 15 years to do. I realised that the pension is hugely different for a Insp than a PC. As I re-joined on the new scheme that has been my boost to get on. Being M,1, hetero, able-bodied I don't expect to get much further. It depends on what you want: as you go"up" the positions become more limited: many current and ex-colleagues have diversified in many different fields "sideways" rather than up.You need to look at the big picture of your career: where do you see yourself in 5/10/15 years? And plan accordingly, expecting to have to be flexible

Why should such a person be at a disadvantage?

He should not have any advantage or disadvantage based on any of these factors.

It just shows how wrong the "system" can be.

I suspect that this is what makes Britain Great isn't it?Angry

one (reasonably) recent Commisioner (Sir Robert Mark?) was a DC with 15 years service when he decided to start....why not you??

Oh that's just great! Another supervisor on here....sigh....

I'm committed to remaining a constable for the rest of my service, I believe I have reached the top step of my own personal promotion ladder (and have a small problem with authority).Wink

I've weighed up the puls and minus points for doing the exam : Look where it leaves me

PLUS Point :

1. 1 free day off except for about 90 mins work with a pencil

MINUS Point

1. If pass the whole system, expect to be moved to opposite end of county (Yuk)

2. Five Fold Increase in Fuel bill per month (Current £30 Future £150)

3. 4 - 7 Fold increase in Travelling time each way to work (Currently 5 mins or 7 if traffic is heavy)

4. Loss of CRTP

5. Increase of pushing paper around (Currently push my own around and thats enough just with Process Files & RTC's)

6. Learning to juggle manpower to cover the lack of funding, to provide a resonable police presance.

Easy to see you're not currently in the Met Wink

Not a cheap shot, honest.

Of course it's worth it, just think of how you can be messed about in you private and personal life.  Going through the months of S**t of studying and classes after classes just to have to wait 6 weeks for the crazy results.

I Think it is done in this way just to see how commited individuals really are when it comes to promotion.Ying%20YangAngry

Is it worth it? Hmm i reckon so.

If only for the increase in wage/overtime rates and pension.  Plus the way the job is going and way we are being treat lately (don't get me started!) it might be the only way for a PC to get something rewarding back.

I was 4% short in the march 2007 exam, only used the blackstones books and found them very tedious to get through.  I've since discovered the promotion crammer by Tom Barron and can't recommend it enough.

Its like the notes you would make from reading all the important bits of the blackstones books already condensed for you.  Doing loads of Ical questions to fill in any gaps which helps.

So yeah, go for it.  I've seen some people get promoted who haven't got a clue about police work.  If they can do it etc etc...........
