Northern_COP 0
I am doing my SOLAP, and doing all the knowledge and understanding bits This is the biggest load of rubbish I have ever done, and a complete waste of my time. I have never been asked so many silly questions in my life nor have I had to answer so many silly stupid questions How am I meant to explain how I take into account race and diversity and their health and safetywhen questioning witnesses about an incident? How am I meant to explain the procedure for assuming responsbility for someone I have detained? I do this automatically How am I meant to explain how I inform my colleagues of what has happened when they arrive at scene, errr well I tell them using my voice, is it really necessary to write and explain how I tell them? Biggest load of rubbish I have ever seen in my life
Northern_COP 0
Oh and to whoever created and thought up the SOLAP, have you ever looked at it and realised what a pile of crap it is? Do you se how useless it is and hows it is not beneficial in ANY way whatsoever? Hope you are proud of yourself

Sentry 0
When I joined up it was the PDP (Probationer Development Portfolio). It was crap then too so I bet like most things do it has only gotten worse.
CeeBee1 0
I have: 2 A4 ringbinders sat waiting for input. 2 braincells struggling to get to grips with it Seriously, we had it explained as a way of proving that you can achieve what is expected as a PC. Evidence is gathered (tape numbers, witness statements etc.) and these are used to assess the candidate (i.e probationer) on their ability. Only after all the *NOS have been achieved are you able to get the big payrise when you reach 2 years The evidence is the stuff created in everyday policing, you just reference it into the *SOLAP and highlight the NOS achieved. *SOLAP = Student Officer Learning Assessment Portfolio *NOS = National Operational Standards *payrise = a fictional beast often hunted by police officers Ceebee

FishFace 0
SOLAP is complete and utter sh*te. I can't put it any milder. It is the most unintellectual, boring, repetitive and profoundly useless creation ever. Just waiting for mine to be signed off.

One inspector actually request I take mine out on response and fill the relevant IAP in at the job or straight after. Obversely he had not been out on response for some time. The bobbie ( old sweat ) I was crewed up with enlightened me with the words you firstly need to get your head round all the other paperwork first, then complete at 100mph and get it all in the right format to enable us to go to the next job. Not forgetting to update the controllers. As for getting time to fill the dam thing in well if I had not taken it home it would never have even got close to being complete. The wife has actually banned it from the house now. 4 different Sgt,s I have had now and not one has got a clue about the SOCRAP and profession discussions have varied time scales from 5 minutes to recently an hour half to talk about warrants just after completing a set of 4 nights and then I had to drive the 26 miles home ( GREAT WAS THAT ) Disillusioned just slightly. Apparently it gets better just got to complete the SOCRAP. Forget locking sh*t up and doing actual Police work.

dr bob 0
I'm just starting the final phase of my so called police sciences degree - the only positive thing i can say about it is - my weekends a almost guaranteed for 3 months! The degree itself is an absolute joke. No formal end of year exam, self reflective essays, not one of which could ever be considered to be of an academic standard and for those of us who already have a degree its almost like being told your current degree doesn't count. Having worked in a higher education environment i can tell you its nothing more than a cash cow for the university running it. To top it all there's the SOLAP - the most soul destroying, painstaking and pointless exercise i've every encountered throughout my professional carreer. This has obviously been put together by a committee of has beens.
Soldout247 0
Such a shame that this competency framework is driving all we do. Those who can apply it seem to fly through the ranks never mind what practical skills they lack. Crippling the service to the public ...
