Part 2 Training

Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to prepare for Part II?  I have been bombarded with literature about different courses and am overwhelmed with how much they cost!  What gives best value and is this the only way to pass?

I can personally vouch for enodo training Ltd. The company is a small outfit run by current Met Instructors ( Ps & Insps) One is an ex-colleague of mine. I did a 3 day crammer for Ospre Pt1 costing £150 & found their training well worthwhile e.g. I obtained 100% on the theft/burglary questions using their simple techniques

Hi, I have already enrolled with Police Academy, the course being in Wales.  I was suckered in by the name and also it falls on my October weekend off which is ideal as I am out of annual leave already...I'm quite impressed with them so far anyway

Can anyone recommend a course in the north east?

I've passed Part 2 twice - both on the first attempt - but only because I did a course.

Some forces will reimburse all or part of your course fees - sometimes only if you pass.

The thing to weigh up is whether the outlay is worth it, bearing in mind that this year should be the last ever Part 2. It's being replaced next year by the continuous assessment process. If you are certain that you are ready for promotion AND you will be supported, then it might be worth investing in a course. If you are just in it to see if you can get through, then you could be wasting your time and money.

Either way, if you fail, at least you won't have to do it again!

I'm still in shock at passing part 1 so haven't thought too much about getting through part 2. I have been doing some role acting (sounds wrong!) for someone who has their Insp part 2 this month, I thought it sounded easier than the part 1 until I started that!

Is this going to be the last time part 2 is used for all forces or just some? Our force use a company and pay for us to go on the courses for part 1 and 2. I've heard that the company used for part 2 isn't that great so a few people have paid for a different one. I'm thinking that if this is the last year part 2 will be around I may as well let the force pay for my course and see how it goes, BUT if part 2 might still be around next year I'd rather get it out the way with now... decisions decisions!

Wow, my force (Northumbria) doesn't offer any help with courses etc, you're pretty much left to your own devices.  Not sure if they're just tight or its down to numbers as they never seem to be short of qualified officers.

I'd also heard that Part 2 would be getting scrapped after this year, and replaced by some kind of workplace assessment process.  I tried to query this with the training dept but they were very cagey.

I'm really undecided about what to do, I'm in no hurry to get promoted but would like to get part 2 out of the way so i'm qualified and its in the bank so to speak for the future.  Haven't really got the spare cash for a course (i'd heard £300 was a typical amount) and i've been given boatloads of literature, scenarios and stuff which is bound to help.

Might just try and get together with others going for it and do plenty prep instead, then spend the money on beers pass or fail!
