Biker girl 0
Hi guys.... New to this section of the forums; I'm usually in the General Discussion adding my tuppence worth! However....I thought that beings as assessment day may be looming, I had better get a crack on with my How2Be....CD-ROM...Tis' very good! I am on the Verbal Reasoning part and this is where you guys come in. I don't agree with one of the answers and because of this, it's added to my confusions. Could you please give your opinions on this... "Following a bank robbery in a town centre, 6 masked gunmen were seen speeding away from the scene in a black car. The incident, which happened in broad daylight in front of hundreds of shoppers, was picked up by CCTV footage. Police are appealing for witnessess." Now it does carry on a bit more, but the parts I'm referring to are above. So the reasoning comes in.... "TRUE, FALSE OR IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY: 1. The car in which the gunmen drove off was a black van" Now my answer to that was FALSE...As it clearly states in the passage given that it was a car. However on marking my test, I found that I was wrong. The answer was indeed IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY. What do you think??

I took this one as a trick question to see whether we just read the black or noticed that it stated a car and not as the question states a van. I think we're right the cd's wrong !!!!! Biker girl 0
It's horrible isn't it?? Are they known for putting in trick questions?? When you say you had this one, do you mean in the real PIRT or do you have the CD-ROM too?
Biker girl 0
The only way I can figure that as impossible to say is if by car they just mean automobile, with no specific characteristics other than it just being black. What do you think?

Salsoul 0
Firstly I'm moving this to the PIRT and Recruitment Interview thread, more appropriate there. Anyway I think you are right, it is clearly false, as it says a black car. I know a lot of people rely quite heavily on the How2be CDs etc however from my recruitment knowledge, there is some information which is inaccurate or out of date. You are better off reading the Westshire Welcome Pack and Information for Candidates packs thoroughly, everything you need is in these documents. With regards to the interview you would do well to remind yourself of your section 4 CBQ answers. Salsoul2007-02-27 16:11:
Storm 0
I applied to West Mids but transfered to West Mercia for my A/C. The key thing you need to look at in this question is they say "may" Is there anything in the statement that proves the man didn't do it ? If not, its true to say he "may" have. Always look for the "may" or "could" If the question asked whether he did do it, there nothing in the statement that tells us he did or didn't so in that instance it would be impossible to say. Does that make sense ?

Storm 0
No Problem Its true what they say practice makes perfect or at least makes you understand. Its also very true about reading your westshire pack, (you get that sent to you with your invite for assessment) I have read it that much I think I know the westshires policys more than my own job !! and I'm a union rep !! Biker girl 0
A factory fire at "Stevenage Supplies" was thought to be arson. A man was seen running away from the scene shortly before the fire started. Earlier that day a man was sacked from the company for allegedly stealing money from the safe. The incident is the second one to occur at the factory in as many months.
