Bondgirl 1
Laura, have a look at the Police recruitment forum, should be enough information there to answer the your questions. Best of luck with your assessment..
Nathan1545925534 0
All I can advise is, just try and be yourself. If you try to be something you are not you will get rumbled and lose brownie points. Theres nothing wrong with being, and indeed showing you nervousness. The interviewers WILL have seen someone far more nervous than you. Trust and be no-one but yourself, do your best and you will pass. The job wants to see honesty and integrity. Assertiveness and confidence can be built. I'll await your post saying you passed. Good luck.
OldAfricaHand 1,846
Whilst my recruitment interviewing experience does not include the Police Service, it covers both public and private sectors; and trained interviewers are very similar in what they are looking for in new entrants - the potential to be trained and successfully deployed rather than a know-it-all. One tip I give to people - if you are faced with a question to which you are stumped for an answer, don't be afraid to talk through aloud how you are thinking about the question - this gives the interviewer(s) the opportunity to consider your thought processes and you get more marks than if you are silenct! All the best.
carrotchomper 0
...Or failing that they will think you're a mumbling freak and pass you for the sake of some new diversity target for "including" the mentally ill in the service!

Thanks soooooo much for boosting my confidence! Oh dear. That was clever of you carrotchomper. Don't worry muil. I'm sure you'll do great. I don't want to put you off or anything, but if I was in your position right now I'd be probably be pea green & throwing up every 5 minutes I don't know how I'll get through the interview if I do ever pass the SET. Sometimes nerves can be a good thing, I will try and use them to my advantage also I have ordered a disc that helps you through each stage of the process so I will let you know how that is when I receive it and hope it gives me some insight into questions I will be asked. It does look rather ridiculous, no need to be like that about it though. It's hardly the world's biggest problem having too many smileys on one thread. Sorry, couldn't resist!! Salsoul 0
The motivation questions in section 4 of the application pack are a good starter, ie, why do you want to join the police, why that particular force, what do you expect to be doing as a Police Constable, what preparartion have you made for this application etc etc. In my force we do a second interview after the assessment centre and these are some of the areas we cover.
