Eligibility to take Ospre

Hi All,

New poster on here, so be gentle!

I re-joined the Met after a break of 4 years in May of this year, having previous service of 15 1/2 years.

I'm keen to study & get the Pt1 under my belt, having done so previously but been unable to pass Pt2.

My question is: Am I eligible to study? Technically I'm a prob again, although my local management don't seem too interested in this.On the Met's HR Ospre website it says you must have > 2yrs service in the year you take the exam, but my service will not be continuous. Can anyone offer a definitive answer before I start investing in Blackstones etc. again

Thanks

I have no idea (hopefully someone with the necessary knowledge will be along in a while) but would just like to say welcome to the forum.

Thanks, been lurking in several other forums. I was afraid the Pee Cee b*****x would have killed off the Job sense of humour, glad to see there's still a few of us "bitter n' twisted" ones still about!

They will never kill off "bitter n' twisted". They might drive it underground but not very far. Some of us, however, are retired and are able to expose our "bitter n' twisted" side with impunity.smiley2.gif

My guess is that it would depend on your status. If you are re-joiner, with none of that PDP nonsense, I would suggest that you are eligible to enter. If you are on a probationer training type course, then you are eligible as long as you complete two years service before Nov 30th in the year you take the exam.

The next sergeant exam is in March 2007, so according to your joining date, you won't be able to take it until March 2008. Nothing to stop you reading up beforehand though.

You could always ask your Force Examination Officer.

Welcome to the forum smiley20.gif

Thanks for the info & advice on here. I've (eventually!!) found out that I am eligible for the exam so, as of tomorrow, the nose is back into Blackstone's until next March.......... there goes the golf handicap!

One thing I have noticed is the amount of waffle in the newer editions-I took the exam in 1992 first time around but failed Pt2.

As a new member I've found the various arguments going on fascinating, however the negativity from some trollers is the same as a motoring website that many Trafpol post onsmiley5.gif
