Inspecta 0
yeah, sure you want it enough? Ready to take on all that responsibility? Are you actually up to it? How about the drop in salary!!?? It aint easy, unless of course you're a butterfly and you're not stopping long enough for it to matter!
Stan Still 1
Did Part 1 on Tuesday. Same as last year, I was first out of the exam. I managed to finish it in 1hr 40 minutes, which was 10 minutes slower than last year. Can anyone beat that?
andyr8603 0
Does anybody have a suggestion as to what order the books are studied in? I say GPD, Ev & P, Crime Roads, anybody got an other suggestions?
Stan Still 1
Depends on your strengths. If you've been in CID for the last 10 years, it might be worth concentrating more on Traffic, whereas an RPU officer may need more time with GPD. Then again, what do I know? I failed Part 1 last month. Probably because I didn't read any of the books enough
Auntie Linda 0
Hi all - If you've taken (and failed) your promotion board, or are just considering it, would you like to have the interview videotaped? An officer and I have been discussing this recently, and he thought that it would be useful so that he could play it back afterwards for 'development purposes' to see how he did and how he reacted to questions if he didn't get through. There'd be tricky bits to consider as well of course - like whether the interviewers would have to agree to it, and whether a third party would be videoing it or whether the camera would be set up on a tripod and the candidate would have to insert their own video before the interview and remove it afterwards - not easy with hands trembling with nerves.... but he thought that it would be very useful. Just wondering whether anyone else felt the same! Will post this on the PC to Sgt thread as well so that I can ask them, too.

croberon 523
I have a question (don't I always). I got Blackstone's General Police Duties last night and I was surprised at Chapter 4.1. Came in this morning to check the Centrex exam site to see if those topics were really covered and now I have the same question I had last night: WHY? Why do officers need to know enough about the National Policing Plan, Vicarious Liability of Chief, Officers, Employment Status of Police Officers, etc... to be tested on it. That's like me being tested on knowing my company's travel policy in order to be promoted. I know bits of it (the parts I use all the time) but the parts I don't...I know where to look it up or who to ask. IMHO, I just don't seeing knowing that stuff part of "policing?" Thanks cro
DeskPilot 0
Tom Barron's web site is http://www.checkmatepublishing.co.uk/ In relation to croberon's point, I totally agree - why should I be tested on whether a magistrates clerk will, must, shall or cannot also during crown court proceedings knowing what a judge shall direct the jury - surely these are points that a magistrates clerks and judges should be tested on. Also, what difference does it make whether the DPP or Atorney Generals consent is required - we send the file to CPS and its up to them to ensure they get the appropriate consent isn't it. Call me cynical but can anyone tell me why we need to buy a whole new set of Blackstones manuals every year (about £65 now) - why dont they do a ring binder which can be updated (like we used to have before OSPRE) - could this be the tail wagging the dog and letting the shareholders profits of Blackstones dictatie to Centrex how much a copper must contribute to this years annual shareholders dividend. If they want good coppers and managers, Get us a more realistic exam which is RELEVANT to the rank and increase the passmark - dont make up learn loads of irrelivant [email protected]. Whinge over ! I could not agree more. When I sat the Inspector's exam (1977), the Job gave me (on loan) the books I needed for my study, and they provided weekly classes which were in job time if necessary. Today, it seems that they are just trying to put obstacles in your way. Keep at it, though. The rewards are worth it.
