Cockett police station: Incident alleged to have taken place in the Swansea building

A chief has allowed one of his inspectors who was allegedly caught having sex with a married female lawyer in a police station to remain in the force.

The pair were reportedly caught in a disused interview room at Swansea's Cockett station in August by a PCSO, a behind-closed-doors misconduct hearing was told.

And despite DI Ricky Price’s actions being deemed as gross misconduct, South Wales Chief Constable Matt Jukes resisted the dismissal option and instead imposed a final written warning on the officer’s 22-year record.

The officer is understood to have offered his resignation but withdrew it before the misconduct hearing.

After the hearing, Chief Superintendent Dorian Lloyd told Police Oracle the sanction is still an “extremely serious outcome” – staying with the officer for 18 months.

The head of the force’s professional standards department added: “South Wales Police employs almost 5,000 police officers and members of staff, who demonstrate the very highest levels of professional conduct and integrity at all times.

“Members of the public and the communities of South Wales should be reassured that the force’s professional standards department takes any complaint or allegation relating to an individual’s conduct extremely seriously, as has been demonstrated here, and will always ensure that such matters are thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action is taken.”

This result certainly makes you think. Perhaps there is one law for rank and another for the file officers.  I was all that long ago that the GMP Assistant Chief(Sullivan) was disciplined and kept her job working on secondment, probably to see her to pension qualification. How can the D.I. have any credibility  or respect from any other serving officer. Had that been a PC he/she would have been on their way with a P45.

He obviously got a nudge and a wink to withdraw his offer of resignation, so the outcome was clearly squared up in advance.

Indeed really sends out the wrong message to the public and rank and file.

Do they only use LQC’s if it’s a IOPC gross misconduct board?

A final written warning is far less than others in the same scenario have got. He should consider himself very lucky.

Unless he had some compromising information about someone higher up!  It has been known.
