Freeman Traffic Stop

Hi all,

Currently going through my training for SC (Home Learning Stage) and I do see a lot of these types of videos claiming about Common Law and not having to provide info, not consenting, doesn't believe in acts etc. It will be a question I take up with our trainers when we start the practical & classroom side of things but wanted some info from the guys already on the street.

It's a fairly long video (Got to 15mins and then moved on) but the long and short was that this gentleman was stopped and refused to provide details. I'm sure this will come up at some point but for those out there Policing, what would be the best way to handle a scenario like this? It just seems to go round in circles.

Appreciate any info / help given...

Apologies if this video has been posted before!

Sorry I got to about 90 seconds and got bored.

To keep it brief - he's committed numerous offences already (failing to produce his documents and then failing to give a name, address and DOB) and there appears to be a clear arrest necessity as his name and address are unknown.  Therefore he should be nicked and charged.  If the officers had bodycam footage make sure it goes on the file and is summarised as key visually recorded evidence just so the court no how much of an idiot he is and how much unnecessary expense he has created for the taxpayer.

As for your comment about "goes round in circles" - it does so because the police in this country generally have more patience and tolerance with idiots than the average person, and certainly more than police officers in foreign forces.  It is in their hands really, the freeman has no power whatsoever and is firmly on the wrong side of the law.

Why do so many offices go around in circles or get tied up? Is it too much patience or just an unwillingness to waste several hours with the arrest and process for what they see as a minor annoyance?

He seems to know as much about the law as he does about microwaves (skip to 33.45).

I've yet to come into contact with a freeman or sovereign or whatever they call themselves, while I'm quite happy to debate behind a keyboard I wouldn't want to be drawn into an argument in person. They misinterpret 'policing by consent'.

AnthonyB, From my observations over the years I see it just as you say,ie why spend half  an hour or maybe double that if they are full driving to custody when in all probability as soon as you arrive at the desk they give all their details, then the drive back for nothing, better to spend the time talking to the subject in the hope that  they will be reasonable  and provide their details,I have done the same sort of thing  myself on quite a few occasions, for example getting drunks on their way home when they didn't want to go rather than putting them in the van and depleting our resources at the busiest of times  for who knows how long,it's true that some bobbies have more patience than others, and I hasten to add that there is nothing wrong with taking to custody those who fail or refuse to provide their particulars having being asked to do so  two or three times.I think the longer you have been at it the more patient you become ha,but of one thing I am certain, sooner or later their name and address, dob etc will be established, just as certain as day follows night.Rich.

Because a lot of the time you can bore these people into submission.

That's where these buffoons get mixed up. They heard from a friend, who watched another buffoon on YouTube, and think they know the law. Should have lifted him for failing to provide details, he was given plenty of chances. Would anyone gone as far as seizing the vehicle as suspected stolen?

I've met the same one twice now. The first time I think I dealt with it ok (was a thread on here, but video has been deleted). Few things I would change.

Second time one was last week or the week before. Lot easier as I knew his name etc. still he filmed me, but reported him to court as he was on nine points.

Know your powers is the best bit of advice.

There was a similar thread going about for a bit...
