Fedster + 1,307
This is the shocking moment a shopkeeper decides to dish out his own justice to a suspected thief. Footage has emerged, showing the owner of a convenience store in East Ham, London, taking the law into his own hands. He is seen collaring a customer he believes has been shoving goods into a bag. After asking him to open the bag, the owner then decides to slap the man round the head telling him "This is no ordinary shop." The customer then feels the brunt of the shopkeeper's blistering attack as blows continue to rain down on him, leaving him stunned. And the owner warns the man he will face further action if he catches him again, saying: "If you steal from this shop again you'll get slapped up again. Learn from it bruv." The footage has appeared today on YouTube triggering a debate as to whether the shopkeeper's actions were justified http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/this-no-ordinary-shop-watch-5876223 The footage has appeared today on YouTube triggering a debate as to whether the shopkeeper's actions were justified Really? Only on YouTube would you get such a debate! Edited June 13, 2015 by Fedster
Cockney_Doris 29
I don't condone the assault but I bet that bloke won't go shoplifting again.

Sappmer 219
The article was clearly written with a certain bias. Made it look like it was a totally unprovoked attack. Saying that, I don't think he should have slapped him and was definitely over the top. I would like to think that the man wouldn't steal again after that encounter, but knowing this country he's probably going to go to the press and sue the shop keeper and get lots of money for going through that trauma. ParochialYokal 1,119
Reasonable force? VIdeo of a shop lifter being 'challenged' by a shop keeper (East London style): https://www.facebook.com/10Standard/videos/10153338388343350/ I guess it saved the paperwork... AA101 626
I don't condone the actions of the thief and believe he needs to be dealt with but the actions of the shopkeeper are way over the line. If I worked on the borough, I'd be pressing for a case of assault (if the victim were located) and POA offences. There was a young child at the till who had to listen to his threatening and abusive language - that's an aggravating factor to me. Words of advice would not suffice and the shopkeeper needs to be dealt with formally and learn the rules of a civilised society.
ParochialYokal 1,119
I don't condone the behaviour but I am not going to lose any sleep over it. If allegations are made, then the shop keeper should face the full force of the law. But it was only a couple of slaps. It's not like he punched him or caused him any injuries. Dave + 93
But it was only a couple of slaps. It's not like he punched him or caused him any injuries. Only a couple? I counted 12. Plus I cant be the only one that can see the blood pouring down the side of his face. Totally disgusting, Id like to think we live in a country of law and order, not an eye for an eye. Those slaps were extremely hard slaps, could hear them making contact with his cheek, shopkeeper is a bully. It is reasonably predictable that you would get a reaction like this if you went thieving from an extended hours convenience store. The treatment that the thief got is hardly surprising. We do live in a country of law and order. And the shop keeper should be held to account, if charges are pressed.

How can you bully a thief? The thief is a piece of trash. I am not condoning the behaviour of the shop keeper. It's just that I have now sympathy for the thief. And if he wants to press charges then he can do so and the matter should be treated fairly and objectively.
Dave + 93
Of course the shopkeeper is a bully. Instead of using the correct system to get justice, he decided he would deal with the matter in his own unlawful way.

He has just given 12 hard slaps to a guy who clearly could not defend himself, a bet the shopkeeper would not try and be so macho if the thief was built like a brick house. Obviously thieving is wrong, but the shopkeeper clearly needs anger management classes! Edited June 13, 2015 by Fedster
