The head of a pharmaceutical company has pleaded guilty to importing commercial quantities of illegal anabolic steroids.
Jacob Sporon-Fielder, a 37-year-old Danish national who had been living in India, admitted conspiracy charges relating to Class C substances worth more than £80 million, during a hearing at the Old Bailey in London.
He was arrested after arriving at Heathrow Airport on 29th March 2015 on suspicion of being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent importation of a prohibited drug, namely Class C steroids, contrary to the Customs & Excise Management Act.
Five other men appeared alongside him and they all pleaded not guilty. They will stand trial at the same court in February and April 2019.
Sporon-Fielder will be sentenced at the conclusion of those proceedings.
The investigation by the NCA began in 2014 following an initial seizure by Border Force of more than 600 kilos of steroids, which had been sent from India to an address in Belfast. NCA then linked this incident to other shipments.
