Posting to a station

Just wondered what’s taking in to consideration when you get your posting to a station.

Other than organisational needs, what else is considered?

Where you live ?

Pretty much yes.

Where you live:

  • Are you locking up on your own doorstep
  • Travel time to your local station

Organisational Needs:

  • Male or Female officers required in a certain district/station.
  • How many people are already assigned to that station
  • Whether there are tutor officers who can train you

Thanks very much for the reply, the reason I ask is that I've had to relocate from the west midlands and I've had to buy a house down in Essex, I'm about 30mins outside of Colchester !!

It was far cheaper to buy than to rent !! Only just got the house today too !!

Congratulations on the house.

I'm sure somebody else will also be able to give more details on postings and such but those are a few that I'm aware of.

Thanks very much, if I wanted to get a ferry to Holland I'd be in the right place I get that Colchester will be busy but it'd be awesome to get that as my posting

There is a station where I live and it’s the only one in that area, it would be far to close to police in the area, wouldn’t take long before I’d be recognised all the time!!

You'd be surprised.  Most folk se the uniform but that's it.  I had a lad stare at me and I could see he was trying to figure out where he knew me from.  This was two days after i'd arrested him.

From someone who has previously worked in the town I lived - don't do it. I couldn't go out in town even for shopping without people recognising me, I should've learned my lesson after I got attacked off shift by a guy who I had ejected a few days before and sadly that wasn't a one off. That was in 2015 and I still get recognised, fortunately now only by the decent customers that miss me but I'm constantly watching my back any time I go into town to the point I can't even go anywhere for a drink because I either worked in or around the venue.

Yeah that’d be the only thing that would concern me at the minute, quite a few folk who claim to hate the police and yet when they need them have no qualms in calling them, I don’t fancy being recognised by customers as such when out with friends or family and top up being attacked/assaulted, leave that till while in duty
