So why then are there so many immigrants fleeing across the Channel to settle here, rather than remaining in the wonderful, yes undemocratic, EU.

I don't known why you think that countries who hold regular elections are undemocratic.  Could you please point out the one-party totalitarian states still in the EU?  I'll wait.

As for comments about corruption.  We haven't had a more corrupt government since the 19th century.

They're absolutely manipulating circumstances to fit their agendas.  They have given BILLIONS of pounds to their friends, while hiding what went on and refusing to address it.  Meanwhile they defunded public services and blamed them for not being up to scratch.  If they want to fund these things they can literally tell the Bank of England to print more money.

Maybe ask some of the one million who have already settled quite legally in Germany? The tens of thousands who try to get to the UK are a drop in the ocean, in comparison.

It is estimated that there are 4.8M unauthorised immigrants in European countries - EU, EFTA + U.K. of which about 1M are in U.K.  (source: Pew Research centre)

As for where asylum seekers end up proportionally more end up in 16 of the EU counties than in the U.K. and fewer in the other 11 EU countries. (Source: Full Fact)

Doesn’t fit with the Daily Mail/Express/ Farage etc rhetoric but hey, don’t spoil a good referendum with the facts.

So what you are saying is that we take roughly one fifth of the refugees in the EU.

Those figures do not equate with your previous sentence. You have already said that we have 1 million of the 4.8 million of unauthorised immigrants.

By your own figures your facts are flawed.

The first figure is total numbers, the second proportionate by population.
1 million extra in the U.K. is less impactive than 1 million extra in Malta.
