So i am once again considering a transfer, this time to the Met. Again no burning desire to go but i do want to go to the Met at some point in my career.

They are currently recruiting transferees and ive heard the process is as simple as it could be.

What i want to know is whats its like to work in the met. Are you single crewed reguarly? How often do you prisoner handle or be dismary car. Whats the workload like, are you snowed under with casefiles and crine reports?

Do the met allow you to transfer co urses? If not this would kill any desire i have to transfer.

Id be looking to transfer to bexley/greenwich/lewisham. Anyone from these boroughs on here that could provide any information.

How easy is it to get onto other teams? Is it easy to progress laterally in the met?

You’ll be busy running from call to call. Probably like anywhere else, except in a smaller geographic area.

Most cars are double crewed that I see.

No idea about workloads but you will carry your own investigations now.

Driving courses are transferable. However, you will need to present certificates or evidence that you’re trained to the relevant level. Assuming that the content  matches ours then it’s a check test at Hendon*.

Other courses may or may not transfer over, but you’d need to state what courses. For example a lot of traffic courses are not transferable.

What other teams do you want to get onto?

Yes it is easy for lateral moves, subject to recruitment to the various OCU’s.

*That was the recent policy unless it’s changed.

Thanks for the reply. I currently hold standard driving but not initial pursuit trained yet and level 2 public order.

To be honest, my force doesnt have many other uniformed teams other than the standard ones. The teams they do have are quite small.

In terms of what teams i want to get into. Agaun i dont know whats out there so i dont really know. I like being proactive so sonething that includes that.

Your driving should transfer over and you will get a pursuit exclusion code in your permit until trained. If you didn’t do vans (not carriers) you will also get an exclusion code for that.

L2 is reasonably easy as there’s always a shortage.

At the moment the MPS is busy amalgamating boroughs into larger command units... ie Islington and Camden became ‘Central North’. They are working their way through although I’ve lost track (and interest) as to what’s left to be assimilated.

It always used to be that every borough had some form of proactive teams for burglary and robbery or a tasking team that did, well proactive taskings. I’ve been away from borough for a long time so I’m not sure what they’ve got now.

That said, there’s lots of other  uniform roles such as Territorial Support Group (TSG), Parliamentary & Diplomatic Protection (PaDP), Traffic etc etc.

I see, we dont have anything like that where i am. The closest is probably a local CPT. My concern is moving to the met and then being snowed under with crime reports and casefiles. Currently i mamage that well and churn through the work reasonably quickly which means i have a small work load.

Do you know if PC's in the met have to build their own case files and go to CPS with them?

I couldn’t answer that as the team I’m on is specialist and we don’t have capacity to deal with anything else.

However, the MPS has this thing called Mi Investigation (a departure from the usual Met naming convention). In theory frontline officers own and manage their investigations which would include case file building.

Response PCs currently keep most of their crimes. Apparently that also includes up to and including serious sexual offences. They have to deal and build case files, as well as do day to day response policing.

That sounds similar to my force now but we dont deal with sexual offences, intimate DV or serious crime.

Officers build and keep sexual offence cases and DV. I know Officers who have also kept GBH cases because CID have refused to take them...

Bexley itself can be pretty dull compared to other boroughs, but if I remember rightly, it's due to merge with Greenwich and Lewisham which are more active.

Nice! Was it a difficult transfer in terms of what the Met wanted from you?
