It wasn't even the first time that week a member of the public had rounded on him.

A police officer was stunned when a neighbour told him to keep the noise down while he responded to a life-threatening emergency last week.

PC Dan McCormack, Community Response Officer for Lincolnshire Police based in Bourne, received a report at 10pm on Wednesday night that a mental health patient in Deeping St James was attempting to kill himself.

The Crisis Mental Health Service told PC McCormack the man had previously tried to end his life twice before.

PC McCormack, who worked for Lincolnshire Police since 2008, and two colleagues were unable to get any response from the man at his home address so they decided to force entry by smashing the glass panel on the front door.

“After around ten hits of the glass, I saw a neighbour appear from a house a few doors down.

“This isn't uncommon and I expected her to provide me with some more details about the male in the address or perhaps the location of a door key.

“Instead, I was shocked to hear her shout 'Excuse me. Do you mind making so much noise, I have children inside and you are waking them up.'

Despite telling the neighbour they were trying to save the life of a man inside, she told them "I don’t care. I have children asleep and you are going to wake them up."

“I have been a front line response officer for nearly 10 years and have never had such a response from a member of the public,” PC McCormack told Police Oracle.

Inside, the officers found a man surrounded by boxes of tablets, alcohol and razors- he told the officers he would kill himself if they left him.

His experience struck a chord with his fellow police officers. One colleague told him about how a member of the public had asked him to move his car out of the way while he was in the middle of performing CPR.

“Sadly, as we see in the news with regards to the abuse of ambulance staff, this seems to be becoming more regular.

“It can add more stress to already stressful situations,” he said.

Just one day before the Deeping St James incident, a member of the public swore at PC McCormack while he was dealing with a violent incident in Morton because he was blocking their driveway.

Oh dear. To be honest hardly surprising. Pretty much sums up the selfish attitude of many people these days.

The report of single person, who is alleged to have made inappropriate comments is hardly an indictment on society.

Please get a grip of your emotions!

I can assure you I am fully in control of my emotions.

Sadly in the course of my job I come across many people like this hence why I don’t find it surprising and sums up many people.

We are of course entitled to our opinions, some shaped by our different experiences.

It appeared to like a story to provoke an emotional response and you appeared to supply one.

Although you  may happen upon many people of a similar disposition does not necessarily reflect on the larger populace

Yes, experiences will tend to create individual responses, that is why most take a professional stance to over come the individual response.

It was just a story of one persons experience on one job, a slow news day indeed, do not let it shape your picture of society.
